HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY PROJECT

Monthly Report

February 2018

INTRODUCTION

Every human being is entitled to human rights

such as right to live and exist, right to freedom,
freedom from exploitation, equality before law, to have
adequate standard of living, among others.

Human Rights plays an important role in everyone’s

life, but not everyone realizes it. It affects people, even if it
doesn’t affect you.

People of today have gotten to the point where it

doesn’t matter what they say, that they think their
comments and hate don’t affect other people. Humans
are often tactless towards each other, but I personally
believe we all were born with the innate of compassion
and love.
INTRODUCTION

One of the most important sectors of our society is

the “Persons With Disability” or simply known as “PWD”.
These persons with disabilities face wide-ranging human
rights abuses including isolation, discrimination, and lack of
access to health, education and employment
opportunities. These kinds of discrimination and barriers
restrict them from participating in society on an equal basis
with others every day. They are denied their rights to be
included in the general school system, to be employed, to
live independently in the community, to move freely, to
participate in sport and cultural activities, to enjoy social
protection, to access justice, to choose medical treatment
and to enter freely into legal commitments such as buying
and selling property.
Everyday I hear comments being made by people
like “pilay, bingot, bingi, pipi, banlag, lumpo” and such
other discriminatory that are often hurtful to the feelings of
others.
Hence, what I’m trying to say is that people should
stop being ignorant and neglectful of the fact that all
humans are equal. We were born equal. Any person should
always be treated with respect. Respect their own rights,
and hopefully they’ll respect yours. Just like the saying,
“treat others how you want to be treated”.

TARGET SECTOR AND
PARTNER INSTITUTION

As   part   of   the   advocacy   project   in   my

Human   Rights   class,   I   have   chosen   the
“Persons   with   Disability”   organization   of   the
Municipality   of   San   Pascual,   Batangas   -‐
Aktibong   Samahan   ng   mga   Taong   May
Kapansanan  sa  Bayan  ng  San  Pascual.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Last   February   15,   2018,   I   went   to   the

Municipal   Social   Welfare   and   Development
(MSWD)  Office   of   the   municipality   and   talked
to  Mrs.  Rowena  Dalangin,  the  MSWD  Head  as
regards  this  advocacy  project.

  Mrs.   Dalangin   then   addressed   the
present   condition   and   status   of   said
organization   –   that   it   is   facing   setbacks   and
difficulties  in  extending  numerous  help  to  each
and   every   member   as   regards   medical
assistance,  financial  assistance,  among  others.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

So   on   February   19,   2018,   I   had   a   meeting   with

the   PWD   –  ASTKBS   President,   Mr.   Darwin   Dimapasoc,
his   staff   Ms.   Lois  Cusi   and   some   other   members   of   the
organization.

We   had   almost   an   hour   or   two   of   brainstorming,
conceptualization   and   deliberation   so   as   to   come   up
with   a   concrete,   feasible   and   attainable   project   that
would  be  of  great  help  to  the  sector.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since   the   organization   is   in   need   of

funds   in   order   to   extend   a   helping   hand   to   its
members,  we  finally  came  up  with  the  idea  of
pursuing  a  Fund  Raising  Project  entitled  :
“Zumba  for  a  Cause”
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Some  of  the  suggestions  and  proposals

given  in  said  meeting  are  the  following:
1.  Tickets  will  be  distributed  for  a  reasonable
amount
2.  Anyone  may  join  said  activity
3.  The   proceeds   will   be   for   the   sole   benefit   of
the  PWD-‐ASTKBS
ACCOMPLISHMENTS

To  conclude,  the  PWD  –ASTKBS  President  stated  that

he  will  inform  the  organization’s  officers  in  their  next  monthly
meeting   scheduled   on   March   6,   2018,   regarding   this   proposed
advocacy  project.
