Muslim and Islam

Misconceptions
By: Nikki Chandakham, Willow Bolton, and Maya Camit
Introduction
There are many misconceptions surrounding Islam,
these are usually born from fear and misunderstanding.
Background Information
After the 9/11 incident, Muslims were accused of terrorism.
Mosques were burned down, women wearing the hijab
headscarves were harassed, and for a Muslim in America, it was a
hassle to get to the airport without being suspiciously watched
by security. But why is this true? When irresponsible, or
downright crazy people do things such as crash a plane into
buildings, rumours start, and it’s not difficult for those to spiral
out of hand.

● Only 6% of terrorist attacks in America were motivated by Islam.

● In the 4o years we have been collecting data, terrorism is at an all time low in
America.
