are being admitted and assisted, and they have a policy or protocol in cases of examination of

DEFENSE: And this policy called decking, it requires that whenever a paediatrician will conduct a
physical examination on rape victims, he or she must be supervised by an obstetrician, am I
right?
Dr. Basungit: Absolutely your honor. It is a joint management protocol policy of BGHMC that in
conducting physical examination on rape victims, the expertise of an obstetrician is required.

years of your practice, you were not assisted also by an obstetrician?
Dr. Basungit: In a few instances I was assisted and supervised by an obstetrician but in many
cases, I conducted the physical examination myself.
DEFENSE: Mr. Witness is it true that obstetricians are expert in examining the internal organs of
females?
Dr. Basungit: yes your honor, their expertise is in the field of examinations of internal organs of
female your honor.
DEFENSE: Did you take an expertise on obstetrician?
Dr. Basungit: no your honor, my expertise is only on paediatrics.
DEFENSE: Mr. Witness, you mentioned that a laceration can be caused by an erect penis. Could
it be possible that the lacerations can be caused by other objects other than an erect penis?
Dr. Basungit: Yes your honor. Our work as a paediatrician is to determine the existence of the
laceration but we do not necessarily conclude that it is caused by the insertion of an erect
penis.
