Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that


contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social
and environmental benefits for all stakeholders.

In financial year 2016 more than 99 percent of Microsoft employees completed
annual training on Standards of Business Conduct, which is available globally in 17
languages

them. As part of this initiative nearly 85 percent of our more than 117,000
employees responded employee survey

92% of surveyed stated they feel proud to work at Microsoft and 87% of
employees would recommend Microsoft as a great place to work

Since 2016, Microsoft has had a formal commitment to respect human rights as a
signatory of the United Nations Global Compact

The Microsoft CARES employee assistance program, offers free access to services
including personal and family counselling, stress management, and referrals for

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) has recognized
Microsoft for having the ‘second largest number of certified privacy professionals
(CIPP) of any company.

Microsoft employs more than 50 people whose primary role is investigating


potential breaches of company policy, and an additional 120 people whose
primary role is compliance

Microsoft has launched Office 365 for Nonprofits in 92 countries around the
world, providing USD55 million worth of Office 365 subscriptions to nearly 11,500
nonprofits globally

18 factories and more than 280,000 workers took various courses in
2016

Apple enforces The Supplier Code of Conduct that is claimed to be the

The company has launched Apple Supplier EHS Academy, an 18-month
program that aims to improve employee health and safety in the
industry throughout the globe. 240 suppliers and 270,000 workers have
participated in this program

Apple employees are 32 percent female, 9 percent black and 12
percent Hispanic. Out of a global workforce of 125,000, 37 percent of
new hires in the last 12 months were women. Out of a U.S. workforce
of 80,000, 27 percent of hires came from underrepresented minority
groups in the last year.

The company launched Clean Water Program in 2013 and in 2015, 73
supplier facilities joined the program to increase the efficiency of their
water usage

3)Google Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)


Starting from 2015, Google issues environmental report that contains
the details of Google CSR programs and initiatives. The following are
the most noteworthy parts of Google performance in important fronts
of CSR taken from Google Environmental Report 2016 and other
sources.

Water Consumption by Google


Google data centre in Berkeley County, South Carolina alone uses about
4 million gallons of surface water per day

From 2013 to 2015, the internet giant reduced potable litres of water
used per employee by 30% at its Bay Area headquarter

In total, six of Google’s operating data centres have achieved 100%


landfill diversion, and one of these has reached Zero Waste to Landfill
The company has set regional water reduction targets for its offices in
2017

Waste Reduction and Recycling by Google


In 2015, Google has diverted 84% of waste from its global data centre
operations away from landfills, and so far in 2016, it has diverted 86%.

In 2015, 19% of the servers Google deployed were remanufactured


machines

In 2015, 52% of the components Google used for machine upgrades in


company data centres were refurbished inventory

Carbon Emissions by Google


The company has been carbon neutral since 2007

Google’s ‘Commuting Sustainably’ program keeps 5,700 cars out of the


road and company shuttle program and electric vehicle charging
stations is equivalent to more than 87 million vehicle miles annually.

Google is increasing the range of its operations in cloud, a platform that


is carbon neutral with positive environmental implications

From 2009 to 2015, the company’s carbon intensity per revenue


(metric tonnes Scope 1 and 2 CO2e/million USUSD) and per full-time
equivalent employee both decreased by more than 50%.
