Faith, Love, Time and Dr. Lazaro

Main Characters
Dr. Lazaro – a doctor who loss his faith in life journey. The one who help Pedro Esteban’s child.
Ben Lazaro – child of Dr. Lazaro who is a good child and has strong faith in God even at difficult times.
Mrs. Lazaro – wife of Dr. Lazaro who has strong faith in God.
Pedro Esteban – came from the poor family whose his child got sick and unfortunately died.
Culture & Tradition
Heaven -
Values
Faith – strong faith of Mrs. Lazaro; Ben baptize the dead baby so that the baby will come to our Divine;
Dr. Lazaro lost his faith in his life but realize his loss of faith when Ben Lazaro baptizing a dead child.
Love –
Time – Dr. Lazaro gave his time to help Pedro Esteban’s child; Ben gave his time to baptize the child of
Pedro Esteban even this moment of time is moment of sorrow for the child lost.

Social Issues
Lack of near hospital or health center – Pedro Esteban need to ride a boat and walk a long distance just
to be able to get the service of a doctor.
Poverty – Pedro Esteban’s family cannot afford the payment for regular service of a doctor.

What is tradition?

- tradition is the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from
generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice.

What is culture?

- culture is defined as the behaviours and beliefs of a particular social, ethnic, or age group, as well as
the ways of living built up by a group, from one generation to another.
Traditions and cultures (human habits) does not include religion. Religion is the same as being religious
and believe in a god - not everyone is a believer, but live in societies with traditions and cultures. A
religion can be distorted and misinterpreted and used to war and destruction and use as a weapon to
control people or countries.
