My Idea

The story is about a journey of three teenagers aged around 17-19, each individually leaving their
house’s after arguing with a parent. They will all follow the exact same storyline, but we see it from
each of their perspectives. The style of editing I will be using is mostly match shots used in a way I
have not really seen before. For example, imagine a shot of character A walking down the middle of
a road. The shot cuts to character B doing the exact same thing, but everything around them
changes as they’re on a different road. The character is kept in the same place for the cut, but it is
obvious that it is now character B. They are doing the same things, in different places. Various types
of transitions like this will take place throughout the video, all keeping that same match shot effect.
Using this technique, I am able to shoot three separate lives, with one storyline. The characters will
go through several scenes, doing rebellious things and having fun while all seeming to be on their
way somewhere, there is a destination to their journey. They will do things like steal a bike, rob a
few items from a small corner shop and spray some graffiti on a wall. They then all end up at their
destination, which is the same place. A garage with some instruments in. They then proceed to pick
up the instruments and start playing the song, ending the music video with band shots.

There is a theme of escapism that will run throughout this music video, which is why they all end up
playing music at the end as it can be used as an escapism technique. I also am considering using a
scene where they get drunk to contrast the band shots, as this is a bad form of escapism while music
is a good one. This means I will not be showing drinking as a positive thing which is always a good
and safe message to put out there. The characters want to escape the boring, argumentative life
they live at home which the viewer experiences in the opening scene, so go out and try new
rebellious things to escape it.

Target Audience

My target audience is young people between the ages of 15-21, but can be watched and enjoyed by
anyone. This is my target demographic as I feel they will be able to relate to the narrative and
characters, as well as liking the style of music. As I fit into this age group, I am able to use my
knowledge and understanding of the type of people who will view my product and use it to my
advantage, suiting their wants and needs successfully. The music video will have a strong, capturing
narrative that will aim to keep their interest throughout, making them care about the characters and
relating to them in some way or another. The bands target audience is also the same as mine, which
is another reason I chose it. Their music is indie pop which is huge within subcultures of this age
group and they are who I will be targeting most. I will use clothing, props and trends that are
common within this subculture to allow them to relate to it, enjoy it even more and even want to
share it round with their friends. The concept having themes of escapism, rebelliousness and bad
parent relationships is also going to help me attract my target audience, as a lot of people in this age
group will be able to relate to at least one of these things to a certain extent. The characters will also
be in this age group as I want to make it as real as possible, having three ordinary looking teenagers
going through the same day to day issues that a lot of people face. I feel that will improve the whole
production, as it wont sugar coat anything or show anything fake, it will be real and honest which
will hopefully be appreciated by my audience. I will also be using a mixture of male and female
characters to engage with everyone within my target audience.
