My position stands with keeping technology in our classrooms. Students benefit from
learning how to use technology. Not only do the students have a way of searching information on
a subject but they also have the benefit of asking for help when not understanding a lesson
shown in the classroom. Students can use programs like Inspiration9, Google Classroom,
Edmodo and many more. It also helps teachers to keep the students attention and helps them
grasp the concept better.
Computers in the classrooms help the teachers with less papers to print out. Also the
students find ways of searching their information, for example if we are learning about dinosaurs
and they need to find information on their favorite dinosaur. Instead of the teacher having to
think about where he or she can find information about all of these dinosaurs, the students
themselves are able to learn to search for information at credible websites. Websites like Google
Scholar and not Wikipedia, the students would know that Wikipedia is not a credible source
because every and anyone can change the information on that website. This would allow the
students to think outside the box and not expect for the teacher to always give them all the
information on the subjects they are learning or that there are different ways of learning or
obtaining information.
Which brings me to my next reason with programs like Google Classroom and Edmodo,
these programs allow the students to take “the classroom” home with them. Google Classroom
allows the students to sign in from any computer to continue where they left off in the classroom
to finish a certain project or to help them keep in contact with their group if they were to have a
group presentation or project to complete. This can also help students learn responsibilities when
having roles for projects or presentations knowing they have to do their part and everyone must
do their share to make it fair. Edmodo is a great way to also have a restricted social media in the
classrooms, this program allows the teacher to make a website that allows the students to
communicate with one another and the teacher too. This program allows the students to ask any
questions to the class as well as allows the teacher to post helpful tips for their homework or
upcoming projects. This program also allows the parents to sign in and see how their student is
doing in the classroom also letting the parents ask the teacher questions about the student. This
benefits the students because they are able to brainstorm not only in the class room but as well at
home, this also allows them to “teach” one another if one or several students didn’t understand
the assignment or lesson for the day. Having them “teach” one another helps the teacher
understand that the students understood and grasped the lesson.
Our world is changing drastically and technology is advancing quickly. We use
technology everyday from our cellphones to computers to getting directions or even for applying
to jobs. Keeping our students up to date with how to use technology can open more doors for
their future. Helping them with blueprints to help them design a building to learning to use
powerpoint to help them present a project they are doing for their office to help them get
promoted to CEO. Students can also search current world problems were facing today this way
they can learn from our mistakes and they aren’t doom to repeat them. The opportunities are
endless when our students feel unstoppable because they have learned all of the tools they need
to use or do anything.
According to the Nevada Computer and Technology Standards states we are keeping up
to National Standards. Here in Clark County School District we take time to teach these
standards, each student at a certain grade level should know how to do and run certain programs
and use them daily. But according to The Clark County School District Technology Plan
2012-2017 edition we have some catching up to do. IN this plan book it tell you about our how
our standards aren’t being met but it also give you a solution. some of the current state gaps are
there is uneven integration of technology in learning across the district, there appears to be a lack
of systematic vision, culture of innovation, and policies for leveraging technology for teaching
and learning. just to name a few the good thing is this plan gives solutions too. Like increasing
appropriate student technology use at every level and every content area, providing systemic
professional development paths that include accountability. which in the Nevada Computer and
technology Standards we kind of are, they check where they are in technology level pertains to
their grade. second grade, fifth grade, eighth grade and twelfth grade are the grade levels they
check, one of the examples is National Indicator: Contribute to project teams to produce original
works or solve problems. for second graders they should be able to work in a team to solve
problems using digital tools. In fifth grade they should be able to contribute to a group
production of an original digital work, and describe a variety of ways to interact and contribute
to a digital product. in the eight they should be able to contribute to project teams to produce
original works or solve problems, and choose a method of electronically interacting for a specific
goal or purpose. So by twelfth grade they should be at the national indicator standards, like
contribute electronically to a group project that identifies a problem, presents solutions, and
evaluates the solutions and justify method of electronically interacting for a specific goal or
purpose. I think they are both on the same page with using technology, we as future educators
have to make sure we use it wisely and they are making new programs and applications for us to
use.
Overall Nevada is catching up to the national standards not every school is at the same pace but
we are forsake getting there. We need to have classes for the teachers to be able to incorporate
technology into their lessons and have students learn actively. In my lesson plan I will be
incorporating the first standard which is empowerment learning where the students are able to
choose what kind online game along with Quizlet and pinup to be actively learning. For this
standard they learn to be more self sufficient and they learn to use their motor skills to get their
answers.

Name of lesson: What’s X?

Grade Level Appropriateness: 6th grade

Technology Content standard addressed: Standard #1- Empowered learning: Students

leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency
in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences.
Found at http://www.iste.org/standards/for-students

Other Content Standard Addressed: Math Standard CCSS.6.EE.1.: Write and evaluate
numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
Math Standard CCSS.6.EE.B.7.: Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and
solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p, q and x are all
nonnegative rational numbers.

Objective: The student will learn and be able to solve equations using different strategies to
achieve the answer. Using different website games as well as foldable notes, matching game and
quizzes to learn terms.

Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: Cellphone, Laptop, pencil paper and markers, with
scissors. As well as pinup.com, quizlet.com, math-play.com, math games.com.

Suggested Group Size: The whole class, Mainly in partner groups.

Procedures: As school starts you will send students an email with the pinup web address though
your attendance roster (the emails are attached with their name and class period. ( https://
pinup.com/Bk7-mV8OM ) with this web address they will be able to see the question of the
day. The question of the day is
Share what you know about solving equations. It can be a vocabulary word, or a process.
As the students start to show to your class they will be able to respond through this site as post-
its. While you’re showing this over the projector. This will let you know who all knows what
about solving equations. (As the students are
responding to this you should be taking attendance. By the time you are finished you should be
able to just go over what they responded.)
After you have finished going over what the students posted you move on to Quizlet.
I have made a vocabulary terms for the students to better understand what the teams mean. they
can look it up on their laptops and be able to go over all the terms that go with this lesson.
You yourself can pull it up as well and go over the terms with them.

I have also taken the time to print these terms and cut the words from the definitions individually.
Please hand them out at any random order.
With this Exercise the students will be able to get up and move a little. The students will be able
to match the words to the definitions, once they have found their partner they should have some
time (2-3 mins) to search and talk about how they got to their match. Once all have been
matched go over each word to make sure they got them all right.
When done, the students should return back to their chairs and with their laptops go back to the
Quizlet and take the test until they receive 100% on it.

After the students have achieved their 100% on the test they are able to choose from 2 math
games. (http://www.math-play.com/soccer-math-one-step-equations-game/one-step-
equations-game.html)
This soccer math game can be played with partners (there is a Red team and a Blue team) the
students will answer questions using what they have learned if they get the answer correct they
can try to score on the opposites team goalie.

The second option is (https://www.mathgames.com/skill/6.2-exponents-solve-for-the-

variable)

With this game the students are able to have more practice with different math problems.

Once they have had a couple of rounds or 10-15 minutes have passed by they can star on their
vocab foldables. here the students will be able to gab paper and different color markers or pens.
With this they will fold there papers hotdog way and write the words and definitions
Use color coding to help the students remember more. Each word along with their definition
should be a different color from all the others. After they finish writing everything our they will
need to cut the words into flaps. With these notes they are able to quiz themselves at home as
well as using them in class (they can go inside their folders to keep with them)

Even if the students aren’t finished they are able to take them home to finish.
The last few minutes of class you can turn on the prosector and put up pinup again to have them
answer the last question of the day. (https://pinup.com/Bk7-mV8OM)

Can you link the your vocabulary words to what you did today?

Let them post and the period should be over by then just check their responses and keep note of
who did and couldn’t understand the lesson.

Assessment: Pinup Assessment- Class participation, Quizlet Assessment- reviewing the

vocabulary, taking the test making sure they get 100%, Mathplay and Mathgames Assessment-
How well they grasp the subject (wether they win or lose the soccer games and how many they
get correct in the math games), Vocab Foldables Assessment- If they followed directions, If they
have the correct word with the correct definition, If they finished, If they have them in their
folders, Test at the end of the week on vocabulary and equations Assessment- How many they
get correctly.
