In Mr. Reid’s class he has 34 students, 20 boys and 14 girls. Their age ranges from 9 to 10 years old. The space is
used very efficiently for the amount of students he has. He had a way with engaging with all students I did not feel
like any child was ignored during my observation. As I was observing, I noticed that the students that need to
concentrate on focusing were seated in the center rows. The students that raised their hands the most were
mostly the girls and students in gate (there were 3 in his class). The only change I would make to the class layout
would be the positioning of his posters. It seemed like they were all over the walls without any certain order. For
example, the “Group Norms” poster which I assumed was a rule, were not in the area where the rules were
displayed. I did not observe any fire safety hazards with the classroom layout. It was very easy for the teacher to
move around the classroom. Also, there is a Crisis Response Guide Poster that talks about evacuation and shelter in
place near the door.
