Three Wise Monkeys

60.96 cm x 91.44 cm
Acrylic on Canvas
January 2017
This piece's purpose is to tell a story using three separate panels inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s Car Ride
and Sunrise . I chose to place all three panels on one canvas together. In each panel is an image of me in
one of three positions depicting the metaphor, "Hear no evil, Speak no evil, See no evil".

Block Print
September - October 2016
This piece is a block print which depicts a tree at two different times. It is in the style of a German
Expressionist woodcuts by Kirchner with the meaning and purpose of impressionism. I specifically chose
a tree in order for it to symbolize life. The tree is flourishing at one point in time during its life while at a
different point in time, that same tree is not living up to its full potential. I feel that this is also true for
myself and my peers. We all have our highs but we also have our lows.

Wood, Cardboard, Paper
April 2016
The goal for this piece was to create some sort of structure which would enhance the experience of the
lake. My design was inspired by Richard Serra. This model is to a 1/8" scale and demonstrates a structure
that can be experienced from two different spots. The first is an open ramp that leads to a raised platform
above the lake and the second begins with a relatively enclosed tight path that leads to an open platform at
water level for a closer experience.

Wood Chair
60cm x 60cm x 210cm
Found Wood and Steel Screws
February/March 2017
The purpose of this project was to combine an organic material with an industrial object in order to
demonstrate their ability to coexist. I created this chair from wood that I collected because I saw purpose
and aesthetic value in each piece with inspiration from Fieber’s Beaver Chew. The chair is meant to
represent the industrial aspect of the project and the wood is the organic. This work tested my design
skills with functionality and beauty.

Found Object with Digital Manipulation
March 2017
A childhood of sports. This was influenced by Haygarth’s Sharps Project This is the essence of this
Mixed Media piece. Each found object in this artwork was a part of my experience playing baseball from
just learning at a very young age to playing competitively. The focus of this piece was to show the
amount of equipment that can be accumulated while playing sports and that each piece has helped me to
be where I am today.

Changing Childhood
Sand
October-November 2016
This is a sand sculpture inspired by Edvard Munch’s Scream. With this sculpture I attempted to show my
observations of younger children and the difference between what I did at a young age and what some
children do now. I used sand in my family's old sandbox to show something that I did as a kid. The decay
of my piece was meant to depict the loss of popularity in being raised doing outdoor activities due to a
more popular interest in modern technology.

Mixed Media
September 2017
This project consisted of memory and feelings. The photo represents a memory and the painting
represents the feelings that the memory provokes. This memory specifically is from coming home from
school and seeing my little brother laughing and making faces. These memories are often my favorite.
The memories that are just kinda there, but they put a smile on my face. This process and purpose was
inspired by Hartmann’s Time and Longing.

Family Zodiac
oil pastel
18 x 12 in
September - October 2017
This piece is a representation of my family. I used oil pastel to create a drawing with symbols that
represent each member in my family. I used the Chinese Zodiacs to symbolize the members of my family.
My mother and father were born the year of the rat, my sister the year of the tiger, my brother the year of
the monkey, and I the year of the dragon. It takes influence from Courbet’s colorful works.

Mixed Media
November 2017
With this piece I used recyclable materials in order to create a natural organic object. I chose to create a
flower as it can be easily recognized. I didn't attempt to recreate any specific species of flower and I
attempted to make the flower appear alive and thriving by keeping it perky rather than drooping or falling
apart. It takes influence from the works of Michelle Stitzlein.

Death
Acrylic on Canvas
61cm x 91cm
November - December 2017
Death is the end, or is it a new beginning? Nobody knows where you'll end up after you die whether it be
Heaven, Hell, or somewhere else. This is the depiction of one man's judgement after death, stuck in the
somewhere else. Heaven is within his reach but he is being held down with ease. Death is merely the
beginning to a whole new story. This work was influenced by Michelangelo and Hans Melming.

Digital Collage
September 2016
My piece, Development, is a digital collage created on a photo editing program called GIMP. All of the
images in this piece are of me and I manipulated each one using GIMP. I was inspired by the
characteristics of German Expressionism including the use of negative space and warped colors and
textures. More specifically, I was inspired by Portrait of Gerda by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Saint
Francis by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.
