Signal Transmission through a Linear
System
 A Linear Time Invariant (LTI) continuous time
system can be characterized equally well in either
 time domain or

 frequency domain

 The LTI system model can be used to characterize


communication channels.

Distortion-less Transmission
 Transmission is said to be distortion-less if the input
and the output have identical wave shapes within a
multiplicative constant.
 A delayed output that retains the input waveform is
also considered distortionless.
