Argumentative Essay Checklist

Goal: Format your document and write your claim.
 1. Create a Google Doc.
 2. Name it Lastname Firstname Argumentative.
 3. Format your essay & Works Cited page. Remember, when you type your works cited entries do
not press the tab key at the beginning of the entry.
 4. Choose a topic for your argumentative essay. Remember that you will need to research and find
evidence to support your claim.
 5. Write your claim. This should be a statement. This should feel strong. This should choose one
side of the argument. This should not include qualifiers like sometimes, maybe, sort of, etc. No
first or second person pronouns.

 6. Begin researching. Research whenever you have free time. Record any sources that you use on
your Works Cited page using proper formatting.
 7. Each source needs to pass a CRAAP test. Make sure to fill out the CRAAP test for each.

 1. Choose two major ideas that support your opinion.
 2. Fill in the claim on your planning guide with your answer for number 5 above and your two
reasons. This can be more than one sentence.
 3. Fill in the first body paragraph on your planning guide with your first reason.
 4. Add your evidence to the planning guide.
 5. Elaborate or explain on your planning guide.
 6. Add a transition to the planning guide.
 7. Using everything on your planning guide, type your first body paragraph into your Google Doc.
Start your paragraph by pressing the tab key if necessary. Remember, no first person or second
person pronouns. Remember, RACE.
 8. Add quotations with citations.
 9. Add any sources citied to the Works Cited page. If the source is already on the Works Cited, you
do not need to add it a second time. Make sure the information is correct. Use the notes in your
writing folder. You must have at least one unique source per paragraph for a total of at least
three sources.
 10. Fill in the second body paragraph on your planning guide with your second reason.

paragraph should introduce what your two body paragraphs are about. Do not add things to
your introduction that you will not have in your body paragraphs. Start your paragraph by
pressing the tab key if necessary.
 3. On your planning guide, add a transition to your concluding paragraph. Remember, no first or
second person pronouns.
 4. On your planning guide, plan your concluding paragraph. You should not include new ideas that
are not in your body paragraphs.
 5. Type your concluding paragraph after your second body paragraph.

 8. Elaborate or explain on your planning guide.
 9. Add a transition to the planning guide.
 10. Using everything on your planning guide, type your third body paragraph into your Google Doc.

 1. Make sure the essay is completed to the best of your ability.
 2. Go to Google Classroom and use your ELA class.
 3. Find the assignment.
 4. Add the essay from your Google Drive. The picture of the attached essay should show your essay
with text visible on the image. Submit.
 5. Turn in your packet.
