NATURAL GAS APPLICATIONS

• Meter Protection
• Gas Turbine Protection
• Gas Booster Application
• Gas Compressor Application

DESIGN CRITERIA
• Gas velocity through the separator shell <= 3 ft/sec
• Gas radial velocity impacting on the surface area of
the gas coalescing element to be <= 0.2 ft/sec
• Design pressure drop through the separator and
coalescing filter measured from the inlet to the
outlet <= 1 psid

THREE PHASE NATURAL GAS SEPARATION FILTER

• First Phase − Centrifugal separator that removes

large particles of liquid and slows the veolocity to
less than 3 ft/sec (1 m/sec)
• Second Phase − Mesh pad scrubber for collecting
moisture in micron size and creating droplets to fall
to the bottom
• Third Phase − Coalescing filtration using a pleated
coalescing element

Vd = Vessel inside diameter in square feet

ACFS = ACFM / 60
ACFM is measured at operating pressure and temperature
Vv (Gas stream where the velocity will not hold liquids) =
3 ft/sec
SCFM = Free Gas measured at 14.7 PSIA and 60° F

COALESCING GAS FILTER ELEMENT
The coalescing methodology is a scientifically
designed process to remove aerosols laden with
liquids in a compressed gas or air. The coalescing
layer is a matrix of micro−borosilicated glass
fibers that remove the liquid in the compressed
gas/air system by diffusion, interception, and
direct impact.

As the gas/air passes through the coalescing

layer, the liquid in the gas/air will diffuse and
collide to form small droplets, which continuously
enlarge as additional droplets collide. The
droplets are drawn away from the element down
the sump of the housing by gravity. The coalescing
layer is a non−wicking glass structure mat that
allows the compressed gas/air to pass while
providing an area for the gravitational
accumulation of the droplets to flow to the sump
of the filter housing.
