This mixed-use development creates a vibrant destination in the heart

of Jakarta using the Indonesian architectural principle of transparency
between indoors and outdoors to establish a sense of place. The
development features a 47-story International Grade-A office tower
and an 18-story hotel tower, the Four Seasons. A three-level podium
contains dining and event spaces and other hotel functions.

In the Indonesian architectural tradition, there is total transparency

between indoor and outdoor space. Natural ventilation and natural
light are also used extensively. In this architecture, semi- outdoor
spaces — those that fall in between indoors and out — provide shade
from sun and protection from rain. For the Four Seasons, such spaces
occur at the ground level and throughout the entire height of the
buildings. These include covered sidewalk cafes and other social
spaces at the ground level and generous roof terraces at the banquet
hall level and office floors.

The office tower massing steps back four times, creating a distinctive
silhouette that is visible from both directions on Jalan Gatot Subroto,
one of Jakarta’s main arteries. At the top of each step, there is a
landscaped sky terrace. The tower façade is a double-glazed unitized
curtain wall that features undulating anodized aluminum vertical
sunshades arranged in a staggered pattern. Viewed diagonally, this
arrangement gives the tower a distinguished wavy texture.

A rectangular extrusion in form, the hotel tower is set back on the site
to provide distance from the busy main road. Vertical and horizontal
sunshades animate the tower’s north and south facades. At the
tower top, the façade is cut out to create a dining terrace, one of
the development’s many outdoor spaces. Off the main lobby, the
Palm Court, a triple-height glass atrium, is surrounded by ribbons of
sunshades and a deep roof canopy.

Landscaping at the ground level continues the green spaces found

throughout the towers and includes water elements that provide a
cooling effect and covered informal gathering spaces set in lush
gardens. In addition, rooftop landscaping on the hotel can be viewed
by the office tower occupants.
