HAGI Chapter Kuala Lumpur Election

And the story has just begun...

On 10 April 2008, The HAGI’s President Abdul Muthalib Masdar and the team arrived in Kuala-Lumpur Malaysia to
attend the most prestigious event this year which was HAGI Chapter Kuala Lumpur election. The team came along with
the president were Mr. Elan Biantoro (Elected President), Mr. Martinus Sembiring (General Secretary) whom
accompanied by two beautiful ladies Ms. Melvina Artha (Administration Secretary) and Ms. Nova Shinta (Technical
Assistant).
The event was held in Chorus Hotel from 6 pm – 8 pm and attended by not less than 30 Indonesian G&G.
The program started with President’s greeting and continued with the election process. There were 3 candidates had been
ready for the election, those candidates were:
1. Muhammad Fauzi (Senergy)
2. Bernato Viratno (PCSB)
3. Dyah Tribuanawati (Uzma)

The selection process was run with direct voting which was one man one votes so that all the attendants can elect their
candidate to be chosen freely and independently. No money politics or black campaign discovered.
After waiting for counting process, finally the candidate chosen with highest vote was Muhammad Fauzi from Se-energy.
Accompanied by applause flew from the attendants, the event became merrier.
Now HAGI Chapter Kuala Lumpur has been established
with the new president M.Fauzi and the story has just
begun.
The program continued with greeting from President
HAGI KL chosen continued by brief presentation from
Mr. Elan Biantoro (Elected president) with titled “Block
Acquisition Tender Process in Indonesia”, the
presentation was very interesting and finally the program
closed with taking picture of all Indonesian of G&G
together.
We all hope that HAGI KL could be contributing in the
development of G&G and also the development of
Indonesia.

HAGI Chapter KL convened its first technical talk in 23 April 2008 with the talk entitled “Marine controlled source
electromagnetic sounding: Moving beyond the image” presented by Dr. Lucy MacGregor of OHM Ltd. Dr. Lucy is the
Chief Technical Officer in OHM Ltd., and is the recipient of the prestigious 2007 SEG’s Distinguished Achievement
Award for her contribution toward the successful implementation of CSEM.

CSEM is being dubbed as the most significant technology in hydrocarbon exploration since 3D seismic. The technology
became commercial in 2001-02, however, the research and development behind it spawned some 30 years ago. We had a
wonderful chance to hear this technology from one of the pioneers in this field.

The talk was well attended by 17 participants and was held in Senergy meeting Room. Herry Maulana, the HAGI-KL
scientific coordinator, kicked off the talk at 5:45 pm by introducing Dr. Lucy and her brief resume. She then began the
talk with a general introduction of the CSEM technology and continued with its application. Some interesting case
studies from the North Sea and Canada were presented and clearly described the potential of CSEM for the hydrocarbon
exploration.

Q&A session and discussion during the talk made the talk went through lively until 7 pm. Two participants from UTP
(Universiti Teknologi Petronas) made a long journey from its’s Perak campus to KL just to join the talk. The
presentation material from the talk (minus the case studies) is available in pdf format, just email me if you want to have a
copy.

I am very grateful by all participants’ interest on the technical talk. We plan to attract more presenters and of course,
more participants from various geophysical or geological backgrounds. A few technical themes have been identified and
will be materialised for future talks. However, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to email me.
