Roman/Greek Mythology Board Game

Spring Semester Project
Latin II

In the fall semester of Latin I, your project was to identify a modern connection to Ancient Rome or Ancient
Greece. In the spring semester of Latin I, you were introduced to Roman and Greek heroes, creatures, and
monsters. In the fall semester of Latin II, you were to research three gods or goddesses from Roman
mythology. This semester, as we work on myths, your mythology research will be put to the challenge as you
use all of the knowledge you have gathered and create a Roman or Greek mythology themed board game.

Goal: Scholars will gain an understanding of the mythological mortals, immortals, demi-gods, monsters,
titans, mythological/historical places, magical objects, and creation aspects of myth and present your
information in the form of a functional and educational board game. You will work in pairs to create this
board game.

Tasks:
1. Your game must have a title and an objective. Maybe your objective is to cross over into the Elysian
Fields in the underworld. Perhaps you are trying to stop Pandora from releasing the evils into the
world. Are you trying to escape the labyrinth? What is your objective? How do you win the game?
2. Your game must have a variety of players/pawns so that several people can play.
3. On each space, there should be opportunities to answer questions according to your research or
mythology information. You will need to create many trivia cards with questions that relate to
mythology. Maybe some cards will be chance cards, maybe some questions are trivia cards. Maybe
you fly too close to the sun and have to go back to the start. Be creative! If you are creating a story
about Pandora, your cards should not include information about Medusa, the Odyssey, Phaethon,
etc. Each card should relate to a character or event from your myth.
4. Your game board should be colorful, informational, functional, and complete. The game board
itself should reflect mythology. Who will you meet along the way? Who will you defeat on your
quest? Who will try to stop you? There should also be mythology related obstacles that your players
must overcome. (Think about obstacles present in Candy Land for inspiration.) At least 5 images
must be original (hand drawn). After that, you may use pictures/graphics found online.
5. You must create and include a full set of rules and easy to follow directions. Include your citations
on the back of this paper.
6. Your game should come alive with attention to detail. Look at examples of other board games
(Monopoly, Sorry, Trivial Pursuit, Clue, etc.) how do these games stand out? Make your game pop!
7. Your game will be constructed on a sturdy piece of cardboard/thick paper/over an existing board
game. Start looking for materials now.

You will be allowed to choose a partner from either Latin II class (1A or 2B) if you would like. There are not
an even number of scholars in both classes so everyone needs a partner. You will be completely responsible
for working on this outside of class as no in class work time will be given. This project is worth 100 points.

Your project is due:

A Day: Wednesday May 9th B Day: Thursday May 10th
**If you and your partner are both in the same class, the project is due in class on the due date. If you are in
different classes, the project is due Wednesday, May 9th. No late projects will be accepted.
