VD4 Digitup Instructions:
The VD4 Digitup circuit-breaker is based on the VD4
version. So much so, most of the information in the
VD4 instruction manual is also applicable to the VD4
Digitup circuit-breaker.
Please refer to the instruction manual of the VD4
circuit-breaker (code 647654) for specific
information.
Additional information concerning the VD4 Digitup
circuit-breaker is given in this supplement.

voltage transformers and possess a higher degree • no saturation
of standardization. • no currents able to magnetize the metal core. This
is very important at low current values for current
transformers
• no hysteresis phenomena.
During the design stage of the VD4 Digitup circuit-
breaker, the characteristics described above made it
possible to adopt the solution with only three
sensor sizes, which can cover all rated current values
from 50 to 2500 A and guarantee protection against
short-circuits up to 40 kA.
The amplitude of the “ε” error committed by the
Rogowski current sensors is constant and does not
depend on the primary current value. This means
that the error can be eliminated with an appropriate
characteristic correction factor of the sensor.
Conventional current transformers have an error
Combined current voltage sensor applied to the circuit-breaker poles. that depends on the primary current, so the error is
not constant and cannot be corrected. Moreover, it
takes on considerable values at the ends of the
primary current field.

It is recommended to use a cable tie to fasten long
The sensor cable is terminated by shielded RJ-45
sensor cables approximately 10 cm from the RJ-45

safety practice to earth cables not connected to the
IED.RJ-45 plug connector has 8 contacts and locking

inserted properly with the IED matting receptacle

applications where electromagnetic compatibility

is necessary to be careful during their assembly – do
not use force.

Rated parameters

Because the sensors are highly linear within a very

wide range of currents and voltages, the same
single sensor can be used for the various rated
currents and voltages associated with each specific
application. There is no need to specify other
parameters such as burden, safety factor etc. since
they are standard over the defined range. To achieve
the correct function of the protection and control
IED, the selected rated current, as well as the rated
transformation ratio, must be programmed into it.

Correction factors
The amplitude and phase error of a current and a
voltage sensor is, in practice, constant and
independent of the primary current and primary
voltage. Hence, it can be corrected in the IED by
using appropriate correction factors, stated
separately for every sensor. In addition with VD4
Digitup the length of the wiring harness is
compensated.

The use correction factor for amplitude error is

required condition in order to achieve the declared
accuracy class, as below described:

factor to be set in the relay = Corr.f.I marked on the
label shall be multiplied for 1.0007.
e.g. value of amplitude correction factor, according
to the label on image below:
