New Steel Profile Catalogue (1)

 A new steel profile catalogue has been created at

AVEVA Catalogue 2.1
 The catalogue provides profiles from the latest
National Standards and includes profiles from the
following countries:
– Australia/New Zealand – Russia
– Canada – South Africa
– Chile – UK
– China – USA
– Europe
– India
– Japan

New Steel Profile Catalogue (2)

 The significant changes from the previous

catalogue are:
– Angle Gtype has been re-orientated to match National
Standards and other systems
– All new Gtypes to more accurately describe the
profile shape
– The number of Plines has been reduced on some
Gtypes and all Gtypes have a common Pline set with
additional Plines where necessary
– There is a common Data Set, containing 23
parameters, for all Gtypes, which means that all
DKEYs are consistent. Non-applicable parameters on
a specific Gtype are set to 0.

New Steel Profile Catalogue (3)
– There is only one Geometry Set and Pline Set per
Gtype. All geometry and Pline definitions are new.
– Property syntax, e.g. RPRO DPTH / 2, is used in
profile shape definition to avoid the reliance on
parameter numbers
– The name of the profile is generally the nomenclature
shown in the National Standard and prefixed by an
abbreviation of the Standard. This avoids naming
conflicts where the same nomenclature is used in two
or more Standrads, e.g. BS_L100x100x10 and
EU_L100x100x10
– The SPRF Description attribute is used for any local
naming conventions and enables the uses of spaces.
The Description is used by default by the appware.

Existing Steel Profile Catalogues

 The previous steel profile catalogues have not been

withdrawn to preserve legacy data.
 The Purpose attribute of the SPEC elements for the
previous profile catalogue have been changed to
unset so they cannot be selected from the appware
in Model (Design).

Properties Syntax

 The following is an example of using Property

syntax for the profile shape definition of Gtype PFI.

Plines (1)

 All Gtypes will have common set of 14 standard

Plines.
 9 Plines are at corners, mid-points and centre of a
bounding box around the profile

Plines (2)

 1 Pline is at the Neutral Axis (NA) and 4 Plines are

positioned where lines drawn through the NA in the
X and Y directions cross the bounding box.

Plines (3)

 Symmetrical profiles will have some coincident

Plines. Asymmetrical profiles will have no co-
incident Plines.

Plines (4)

 Gtype specific Plines are added where required, as

highlighted in red, to facilitate trimming of
attached members in all cases.

Plines (5)

 The Cconnect attribute of Standard Plines and

Gtype Specific Plines, as highlighted in red, are set
to ANY, as required for specific Gtypes.

Display Levels & Obstruction Values

 Generally Gtypes have two representations:

– Simple, i.e. not root or toe radii
– Actual, i.e. the actual shape of the profile
 The Display Levels and Obstruction values are:
Representation Display Levels Obstruction Value
Simple 0-3 0
Actual 4-8 2
Obstruction 9 - 10 1
 Gtypes CTUB, PLTG, BOXG, FBAR, RBAR and BFLA
only have an Actual representation so Displays
Levels are 0 – 8.

Display Levels & Obstruction Values

 Only ‘enclosed’ Gtypes, i.e. RTUB, CTUB and BOXG

have obstruction geometry set to Levels 9-10

Design Parameter Profiles (1)

 Equivalent Design Parameter profiles are provided

for most Gtypes:
Gtype Description
DPFI Design Parameter Parallel Flange I
DPFC Design Parameter Parallel Flange Channel
DPFT Design Parameter Parallel Flange Tee
DANG Design Parameter Equal or Unequal Angle
DRTU Design Parameter Rectangular or Square Tube
DCTU Design Parameter Circular Tube
DZED Design Parameter Z Profile
DCEE Design Parameter Flanged C Profile
DPLG Design Parameter Plate Girder

Design Parameter Profiles (2)

 Design Parameters are based on the common

parameters for standard profiles and the same
DKEYs are used.
 Only the required Design Parameters are used for
each Gtype so there is no common data set and
each Design Parameter Gtype has it’s own Data Set,
Geometry Set and Pline Set.
 Examples of non-prismatic profiles using Design
Parameters are also provided in the new profile
catalogue.

Preferred Profile List (1)

 A list of ‘preferred’ profiles to be used on a project

can be created in Paragon.
 The list contains only profiles, possibly from more
than one Standard, that are available to the user on
a project.
 The list is created in Paragon using the Preferred
Profiles button in the Create group on the
SPECIFICATION tab.

Preferred Profile List (2)

 The Preferred Structural Profile Manager form

enables Standards, Gtypes and Profiles to be
selected.

Copyright © 2015 AVEVA Solutions Limited and its subsidiaries. All rights reserved.
Preferred Profiles (3)

 The form creates a Preferred Specification World

(PSPWL) that contains TABGRO, CTABLE and
TABITE elements representing the Standard, Gtype
and Profiles respectively.

 This ensures that the Spref attribute for a GENSEC

is always set to the original catalogue reference.

Preferred Profiles (4)

 If a PSPWL exists in a Project the profile selection

gadgets in the Defaults group of the SECTIONS
tab only display profiles in the Preferred Profile list.

New Joints and Fittings Catalogue (1)
 To compliment the new steel profile catalogue, a new
joints and fittings catalogue of sample data has been
provided which includes catalogue and template joints
 The joints and fittings in the new catalogue use the
parameter order of the new profile catalogue so will not
work with profiles from the previous catalogue.
 Sample joints include
– Beam to beam joints
– Beam to column joints (web and flange) joints
– Splice joints
– Bracing joints
– Baseplate joints

– Baseplate fittings
– Stiffener fittings
– Lifting Lug fittings
– Padeye fittings
– Shear Stud fittings
– Scaffold Clip fittings
– Fireproofing/Insulation fittings
 Sample catalogue panel fittings are also provided.
