In the article of Michael Casey, it is about being mindful of God in every endeavors we do in the world
we dwell. Mindfulness of God has an impact on our spiritual growth, we call this divinization of oneself,
by doing a profound change which makes the human mind or progressively attend to the divine self-
manifestation and see capable of guiding the behavior in accord with its perception of truth. So this
demand a change of heart by which a person is simultaneously the passive receiver of revelation and an
active follower, who strives to render life responsive to its dictate, so as a result a spiritual growth.
So memory of God is one of divine process of transformation. Thus if one forgets, forgets himself, one
ceases to be concerned about the things which serve his ultimate welfare, committed through
thoughtlessness and unconcern. The script tells us on how to be mindful of the memory of God. First is
to have fear of the Lord, this fear will develop into a memory and instill in the mind, then memory
becomes an active effort of the mind and heart to retain and enter into the riches of revealed truth.
Then after that level of retention of memory of God, mindfulness of God appears less as an action than
as a transformed state of consciousness, in which every thought and word and deed take place within
the context of divine. This level is like being habitually possessed and transfigured by the presence of
By forgetfulness, engenders sins of omission coupled with an unseeing sense of complacency. Also
sadness estranged us from spiritual transformation because feeling of sadness tends to come up at
times because of the deprivation of one’s desire. On the other occasions it accompanies anger. Certain
thoughts drive the soul to the memory of home and parents or else to that of one’s former life. Now,
when these thoughts finds that the soul offers no resistance but rather follows after them and pours
itself out in pleasures that are still mental in nature then they seize you and drench you in sadness with
the result that this ideas indulge no longer remain. In fact they cannot be had in reality either because of
her present way of life. So the miserable soul is now shriveled up in his humiliation to the degree that
she poured herself out upon his thoughts of hers. I have my own experience in the circumstance
mentioned above, I have been in love with this girl, however I cannot fulfill of what I want in our
relationship. I thought that I could stomach that but eventually I gave up. I became sad to the point that
I became frustrated, miserable and angry until I broke up with her. At first it was overwhelming and at
the same time sad. The frustration was gone, but I knew to myself that I love her and missed her, and no
one can replace her. I realize that she was right all along but if go back to her, I’m sure that all the
frustrations will come back and end up hurting her. I know my love for her is toxic and that’s not what
the real love is. So I’m saying good bye to her to save her.
So memory and fear of God help us to be conscious in every actions we make and eventually becomes a
habit and becomes automatic in our every dealings sa mundong ginagalawan natin. Having no memory
and fear of God, we tend to commit sins of omissions, as we act not knowing that we are committing a
sin. This is well known as a phrase which states that “think before one acts”. Best example of this when
2 persons talks about someone but somehow they tend to gossip about that person which is immoral.
So memory and fear of God plays an important role in spiritual transformation that God is always within
his work. This can be practice by intensively praying and open ourselves to God, just not to think of
anything except connect with God. In lectio divina, God can be a crying shoulder for the broken heart
because He is strong enough to shake all earth and heaven. Also the weary can come unto Him, to heal
the scars and carry the load which the former brought, God shall give them rest. As we fall down, God
will pick us up and makes us whole again because God did not give us any burden which we cannot bare.
