Priorities, Goals, and Vision

Which of the Hult DNA skills represent your three most important development priorities?
Insert the skill below (e.g. “listens carefully to others”).

Priority #1 Persuasively sells a vision or idea

Priority #2 Effectively negotiates interests, resources, and roles

Priority #3 Takes initiative even when circumstances, objectives, or rules

aren’t clear

List and describe a specific, measurable, and actionable goal for each development
priority. What is your vision for what success will look like?

Goal for Being able to list down 3-5 suggestions and ideas for the team and
Development tick them off each time I get to share them with the rest of the
Priority #1 members

Goal for Being able to present a coherent and organized structure by

Development creating an outline of thoughts beforehand
Priority #2

Goal for
Development Being able to ask questions either to the team or to the professor
without holding back
Priority #3

Describe how you will benefit if you can achieve your goals and make your visions a
reality.

Benefits of Making Your Visions a Reality

Should I be able to make this happen, I think my teammates’ perception of me will

gradually improve over time as someone who is willing to take the lead whenever I
have the right resources and ideas in mind. More than that, I can be more professional
with my future work should I be able to achieve such assertiveness and confidence in
my actions.

3
Action Plan

Identify at least three potential barriers for achieving your goals. You might think about
barriers that would be specific to each goal or overall barriers. What might make the
development process hard?

Barrier My introverted personality might hold me back from wanting to

reach out to others.

Barrier Dominant people who are aggressive in selling their ideas might
intimidate from speaking out in front of others.

Barrier Hostile environments in team meetings might not encourage me

to take initiatives or suggest ideas.

List at least two meaningful actions you can commit to in order to achieve your goals for
each development priority. Initially consider actions that you can practice each day
and/or each week. The Hult Development Guide can be a “thought starter” for your
action plan.

Actions for 1. Coming up with a list of 3-5 suggestions for the team to possibly
Priority #1 implement when analyzing a business case

2. Encouraging everyone to do a roundtable discussion where

everyone can actively provide their own comments and ideas

Actions for 1. Creating an organized outline for better presentation of ideas

Priority #2
2. Preparing 3-5 questions to ask beforehand and anticipate
possible answers or reactions from the team

Actions for 1. Offering to reach out to other team mates should they require
Priority #3 assistance in completing their tasks

2. Being more inviting to team mates to provide alternatives or

feedback on the ideas being presented

4
Accountability

How will you know when you have been successful? For each developmental priority
identify the evidence that could be offered.

Priority Evidence

Persuasively sells a vision or Gaining the ability to be more open and comfortable in
idea telling people what I’m thinking

Effectively negotiates Having people to enter a good discussion with me with

interests, resources, and regards to reaching our common goal
roles

Takes initiative even when Being able to receive answers that may gain the trust of
circumstances, objectives, other people, allowing them to depend on me whenever the
need arises
or rules aren’t clear

You will be more successful if you invite others to hold you accountable for your action
plan. Consistent reinforcement of new behaviors is needed to improve, but there might
be many innocent reasons why things slip. These might include lack of comfort with new
behaviors, simple lack of awareness of all the ways that old behaviors kick in,
procrastination, or declaring victory before the game is won.

A good way to invite others to hold you accountable is to give permission to ask simple
questions every week that will cause you to reflect on your actions and (re)commit to
your vision.

What two questions will you invite to help keep you on track?

Question Question

Have I been more comfortable in voicing Have these changes in my personality

out my opinions to other people? been effective in the perspective of
others?
