Sawed, or Machined Edges, (Plate, Bar, Sheet, and Strip).
1.04 SUBMITTALS:
2. Shop drawings showing fabricated items, complete details of joints, supports, and
fasteners.
A. Protect exposed finishes against construction damage; remove protection prior to final
acceptance.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL:
C. Fasteners (Nails, Screws, Rivets, and Bolts and Nuts): Same material as item being
fastened.
2.02 FLASHING:
2. Stainless Steel: Stainless steel sheets, Type 304, finish 2D, Condition A (annealed)
conforming to the applicable requirements of ASTM A167, and not less than 26
gage or 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) thick.
3. Copper: 16-oz. hard (cornice) temper copper sheets conforming to Fed. Spec. QQ-
C-576B(1).
4. Aluminum: Aluminum alloy 3003 with temper of H12 or H14 conforming to Fed.
Spec. QQ-A-250/2D and not less than 0.020 in. (0.51 mm) thick.
2.03 REGLETS:
A. Manufacturer:
B. Provisions: Surface-applied, 0.055 in. (1.4 mm) thick extruded aluminum with clear
methacrylate lacquer coating. Aluminum connecting plates and extruded butyl rubber
sealing strips furnished with reglets as required by design.
A. Materials:
3. Gutter Size: 6-in. (150 mm) wide x 4-3/4-in. (120 mm) with Ogee profile.
6. Accessories: 2-in. (50 mm) wide aluminum strap channels. Finish similar to
downspouts.
A. General:
2. Form and fabricate sheet metal in shop, when possible. Identify bulk materials
from which items are field fabricated by manufacturer's trademark printed or
embossed at frequent intervals.
3. Provide profiles with interactions that are sharp, even and true, with plane surfaces
free from buckles and waves; and seams that follow direction of water flow.
5. Cut, fit, and drill sheet metal as required to accommodate related, adjacent or
adjoining work.
6. Fold, bend or return exposed edges of sheet metal. Raw edges not permitted.
2. Counter, Equipment Support, and Roof: 3/4-in. (19 mm) locked and soldered
seams, assembled into units not longer than 16 feet (4.9 m). Join units with three-
inch wide loose locked seams filled with soft grade butyl base compound, before
units are assembled. Mitre corners and join by riveted or locked and soldered joints.
3. Through Wall: Stainless steel or copper sheet, to bond in mortar bed, prevent from
moving laterally, and free from breaks and perforations. Bonding features having
series of continuous ribs, extending transversely, formed to prevent pocketing of
water, and located not more than three inches apart. Where through-wall flashing
connects with other flashing, fabricate a specially formed edge to engage other
flashing.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
A. Conform with procedures and methods of installation and applicable details indicated and
described in SMACNA's "Architectural and Sheet Metal Manual" and NRCA's "A
Manual of Roofing Practice."
B. Where installation requires fabrication at the job site, conform to applicable requirements
of Article 2.05.
E. Apply flashing compound at slip joints or wherever metal-to-metal contact occurs and
movement may be anticipated to occur.
F. Fastenings:
1. Fasten sheet metal runs to underlying material by nailing through slotted holes in
flange at three inches on center, unless otherwise indicated or required by
manufacturer.
3. Bolts, nuts, screws and other type fasteners in contact with aluminum shall be
stainless steel.
2. Prime surfaces, to receive flashing, with asphalt primer, then brush coat with
asphalt roof coating.
3. Apply flashing with not less than 3-in. (75 mm) lap cemented with plastic cement.
5. Extend flashing into wall and cut 1/4 in. (6 mm) from inside face of exterior wall.
2. Provide continuous flashing with interlocked end joints and layer of mortar above
and below flashing.
C. Aluminum Type:
1. Lap cap flashing over base flashing by at least 4 in. (100 mm) and turn back bottom
edges by 1/2 in. (12 mm)
3. Miter corners
2. Coat contact surfaces of copper flashings and reglets with bituminous paint.
C. Provide elbows, shoes, wire strainers, fastenings, and accessories with downspouts.
2. Coat aluminum surfaces with bituminous paint, if contact with concrete, brick
masonry or mortar after erection.
