ABSTRACT

The Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is the acceptable skills training program
that forms part of the approved minimum academic standard in the various degree programs. It helps to
broaden the student’s knowledge in their chosen professions so as to achieve the much needed
technological advancement for the nation. This report is aimed at explaining key areas of my training
under the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) undertaken at Total Exploration and
Production Limited Nigeria (TEPNG). The six months program covered the maintenance and
troubleshooting of mechanical equipment which include pressure vessel, valves, lifeboats, pumps,
compressors and gas turbines undertaken at the Joint Venture Field Operation Mechanical methods
department. The program also featured pre-mobilization and technical evaluation for pressure vessel and
valve maintenance respectively. This report gives concise information on all the subjects afore
mentioned, and defines clearly the experience gained. The SIWES provided an avenue to bridge the gap
between university work and actual practice as well as exposure to practical world for total appreciation
of previous class works.
