The calculated viscosity of Lubricant Oil when using spindle no.

4 boosted at 12rpm
and gradually declines when using a higher speed
When using spindle no 2. the viscosity gradually increases as speed of rotation
increases. The calculated viscosity of lubricant oil decreases at a steady rate
when using spindle no.3 and spindle no.1.

The fluids experimented at a low rotational speed (6rpm) results in a high reading
of viscosity meanwhile fuilds experimented at a higher rotational speed (60rpm)
results in a low reading of viscosity.

The size and shape of the spindle affects the value of viscosity. As the size
increases , the surface area in contact with the fluid becomes larger thus
resulting a higher value of sheer stress. Shear stress is one of the factors that
affects viscosity, hence the viscosity will differ.

Result

The experiment went as expected with no unusual events that would have introduced
error. The dial readings as measured for the viscosity appear in Table B and Table
C of the appendix. Also included in the Appendix are Table A which shows of factor
of various spindle used for calculating the value of Viscosity(cP). These
calculations led to the values of Viscosity that are shown in the right side of
Table B and C.
As seen in Table B of the appendix, the viscosity of lubricant oil (cP) gradually
decreases as spindle speed (rpm) increases when using spindle no. 1 and spindle no.
3 while the viscosity of lubricant oil (cP) gradually increases as the spindle
speed (rpm) increases when using spindle no.2.When using spindle no.4, the
viscosity of lubricant oil (cP) fluctuated at 12rpm and decreases at a steady rate
at a higher rotational speed
As seen in Table C of the appendix, the viscosity of Honey (cP) dropped as spindle
speed (rpm) went up when spindle no. 1 is used. When spindle no. 2 is used, the
viscosity of honey (cP) significantly decreases as spindle speed (rpm) increases.
The viscosity of Honey (cP) decreases as the spindle speed (rpm) increases when
spindle no. 3 is used. When using spindle no.4, the viscosity of honey (cP)
increases at a steady rate as spindle speed (rpm) increases.

Discussion
The fluids experimented at a low rotational speed (6rpm) results in a high reading
of viscosity meanwhile fluids experimented at a higher rotational speed (60rpm)
results in a low reading of viscosity. The size and shape of the spindle affects
the value of viscosity. As the size increases, the surface area in contact with the
fluid becomes larger, thus resulting a higher value of shear stress. The changing
of shape also increases the total surface area in contact with the fluid for
example, spindle no.3 that has a disk shape at the other end which adds another
layer of surface in contact with the fluid. Shear stress is one of the factors that
affects viscosity. The spindles speed of rotation increases proportionally to
shear rate which is also a factor of viscosity.
The graph of viscosity (cP) against spindle speed (rpm) of lubricant oil and honey
have been plotted as Graph A and Graph B respectively in the appendix.
Based on the data collected from Graph A in the appendix, the viscosity of honey
(cP) is inversely proportional to the spindle speed (rpm) when spindle no. 1 is
used. This proves that Honey is a Non-Newtonian fluid. Based on the data collected
from Graph B in the appendix, the viscosity of lubricant oil (cP) is inversely
proportional to the spindle speed (rpm) when spindle no. 1 is used. This proves
that Lubricant Oil is a Non-Newtonian fluid.
