‘To Whom It May Concern:
Jam writing this letter as a reference for Alana Millard who was my student in FDUC 3601: Curriculum
and Instruction for Mathematics Majors and EDUC 3604: Evaluation of Student Learning during the
Spring term of 2017 atthe University of Lethbridge. Alana was also a research assistant for me during the
Summer of 2017 and assisted ina Puzzles and Problems course that was delivered to teachers within
Holy Spirit School Division in Lethbridge.
During (he courses, Alana displayed excellent knowledge and understanding of current teaching and
assessment practices. Alana designed a comprehensive Unit Plan for Grade 5 Mathematics uniton
fractions and decimals. Her unit plan incorporated assessment for, of, and as learning and multiple
Instructional strategies that were designated to inform her teaching and inform students of their
learning. Alana also designed and developed the questions for a quiz on decimals demonstrating effective
question design and development.
‘Alana showed excellent ability to workindependently as a research assistant. She was responsible for
identifying mathematics pre-requisites for programs at colleges and technical institutes within Alberta.
Alana organized her time well and found excellent ways to represent her findings that are easily readable
for others.
During the Puzzles and Problems course, Alana was a huge asset in supporting practicing teachers with
thinking about embedding puzzles and problems into their teaching, Even though Alana was still
completing her coursework at the University of Lethbridge, she was considered as part of the teaching
group and even went ta some of the teachers’ classrooms to observe their practice
Inall of my interactions with Alana, she has showed maturity and a willingness lo learn and challenge
herself, Though | have not supervised Alana in a teaching situation, her ability to work well with others
and to reflect about teaching was evident in the activities that she participated in both within classand
with her support role for the Puzzles and Problems course, I believe that she will be a greatassot to any
teaching staff. Ifyou haveany questians or concerns regarding this reference, please feel free to contact
me at richelle marynowsli@uleth.ca or at 403-329-2269,
Sincerely,
