ENGLISH COURSE DESIGN

INTERVIEW REPORT

To fulfill English Course Design task, I interviewed an english teacher who teach in
SMP IT Nurul Fikri. The interview took place in Bimbel Alumni Aceh, Lamprit for the
teacher is also an english tutor. The writer did the interview by asking some questions about
syllabus, curriculum, lesson plan and assessment. The explanation of those questions will be
explained in the following.

To begin it, the writer asked about some difficulties in designing syllabus and how
long it takes time in designing it. The teacher said that he did not find any specific difficulties
in designing syllabus for he used the previous syllabus and other senior teacher’s syllabus as
the guideline. So, it makes him easier in designing it. In addition, he also said that for now he
used the syllabus that has created and it is the same for the some schools. Furthermore, the
writer asked about curriculum. Nowadays, Indonesia use curriculum ‘k-13’ which consist of
KI and KD and then developed by teachers to get a good indicator based on the goal of the
learning.

Before applying K-13, indonesian used KTSP. The difference is that KTSP has SK
and KD, while K-13 consists of KI and KD. In term of adaptation, there is no significant
difficulties. In K-13, students are more active than teacher.furthermore, when the writer asked
about lesson plan, teacher said that he makes a lesson plan together with PROTA and
PROSEM. Sometimes, the teacher used the previous lesson plan to apply in the class. But, if
he think it need to be revise by considering students ability, he will revise and add some new
activities in lesson plan. To anticipate problem in the class, teacher would find the
characteristics of students before he entered the class. He find it by asking to other teacher.
But, if the problem still happen, he usually used his own tactic. So that, as the teacher should
ready for all possibilities and problems in the class.
Different with lesson plan, prota and prosem is more general. It consist of the plan
generally, not as specific as lesson plan. Prosem consist of general plan for a semester, while
prota consist of the program for a year or two semester.

In term of assessment, the teacher use authentic assessment. He assessed students not
only in the examination, but also in everyday class. But still, he used final examination as the
main evaluation while other just as additional. If the students failed in the examination, he
would add the everyday assessment in class as additional score.

Overall, after interview the teacher, the writer get some new knowledge about prota,
prosem, lesson plan, syllabus and assessment. It can be conclude that the sturcture of them
from the more general to more specific are prota, prosem, syllabus, lesson plan, and it also
include assessment to evaluate students’ achievement of the knowledge.
