1 Sample Calculation - Priy Devvrat Singh -

Propeller RPM : 9400

Wind tunnel RPM : 1000
Consider the 14th observation for the sample calculations at 1000 RPM of wind
tunnel with propeller rpm 9400 is performed here. The calibration constants
were found using values of voltage v/s F by a curve fit.
F = -0.7555 *(V 1 − V 10 ) + 7.045 * (V 2 − V 20 ) -0.0233 .

V 10 and V 20 are the values shown by the voltmeter at no load condition,

that is zero wind tunnel speed and zero propeller speed. For this experiment,
V 10 was 14.8 and V 20 was 3.56. Once the constants are evaluated, the applied
force can be calculated as :

F = − 0.7555 ∗ (14.8 − 14.3) + 7.045 ∗ (3.56 − 3.54) − 0.0233

F = − 0.26015

Using the above equation the net force on the force balance was calculated

(h0 − h)sin(Θ)ρg

The drag is related to induced velocity through the formula:

D = ρ(V + v)2 SCD

D = ∗ 1.225 ∗ (10.355 + v)2 ∗ 25 ∗ 10−4 ∗ 1

Thrust and drag are related to the net force through

Tef f =T − D

The two equations, the one relating induced velocity to thrust and the one
relating net force to thrust and induced velocity are solved iteratively to arrive
at the value of v and T. The value obtained for v and T are 6.34926 m/s and
14.524 N. The coefficient of thrust, CT , is determined as follows
