Video analysis :

Based on the video, It shows 4 people are in the same Hellycopter. Two of them are
American and the others are from Arab (Middle East). At first, one person from Arab starts
speaking in English with strong Arabic accent. Later on, the person talks back to his Arabic friend
in Arabic language that the two American do not understand. They are having random
convertation about car, their friend, accident and others. As they are having convertation, the 2
american catches some words/ phrases from Arabic people's convertation. But these words and
phrases that the American hear lead to misunderstanding. The American think that those Arabic
are terrorist that are going to commit crime (Bombing places) while they are not.

How could this misunderstanding occur? Language, culture, and people are things that
cannot be seperated. They are connected each other. Moreover, Language represents people
and their culture. That is why there are people who say that when you are learning a particular
language, you also need to learn their culture. Every people have their own perspective about
some particular people/tribe/culture. When people listen to language that they do not speak
but they know a little bit about that particular language, there is a big possibilty that people
who listen to that language will also think about their culture. In this case, there are some bad
stereotypes about people who come from Middle East countries. It started after a big tragedy
occured in November 9, 2001 where an airplane hit WTC building and caused many people died
. American govermment blames Al-qaeda which is from Middle East as the one behind this
tragedy. Since that, there are some American who label Arabic or those who come from middle
east countries as terrorist, while in fact that is not true. The American from the video when they
listened to Arabics in Arabic language, they will associate to Arabics' culture and prejudice that
terrorists are from Middle East countries. This case also goes deepee into something called as
Islamphobia where people are afraid of Muslims and Islam.

From the video, we can learn that Language has a very important role in representing culture
and its people. Prejudies and stuff will always be something that cannot be avoid. One of things
to do in order to reduce bad prejudies is to understand that every person is different despite
they come from the same place and share the same language.Moreover, it is very essential to
understand others culuture, not just to know it.
