60m Communication tower at Bandra terminus
Site condition
Subsurface profile at this site generally consists of fill overlying completely weathered rock
underlain by hard bedrock. Encountered soil/rock layers are described below;
LAYER I: fill
LAYER II: completely weathered rock
LAYER III: hard basalt bedrock
Foundation type
Considering communication tower structure of 60m height and as shown in STAAD analysis
wind load will be predominant in design on foundation.
To prevent from uplift since it is light weight steel frame Pile foundation shall be ideal.
Safe Vertical and Lateral Capacity of Piles as per soil test recommendations.
Maximum total settlement of piles installed as described above will be less than 12mm.
Depth of fixity for lateral loads will be 6.2D below pile cap.
Grade of Conc. 25
Diameter of reinforcement = 8 mm
Spacing of the ring:
Least of the following:
(i) diameter of pile = 700 mm
(ii) 16 x dia of smallest long. reinf = 192 mm
(iii) 300 mm = 100 mm
Spacing provided 8 mm dia 100 mm c/c
AREA
COMPARISON
Main Bars = 1130.4 mm2
2
Lateral ties = 2260.8 mm
Area of Reinforcment required in pile = 3391.2 mm2
Pile cap was designed as per deep beam analogy, by performing analysis in SAFE software for
foundation design.
As shown in above calculation it is a short regid pile, so it is safe in lateral diflection.
Reinforcement in pile have been confirmed as per IS 2911 recommendations.
