Fitting

Introduction to Fitting Process

Fitting refers to the act or an action of fitting more than one piece together by any means. In the
case of fitting in this project, we are to fit two metal pieces that initially are just two regular
rectangular pieces of metal. Then, the pieces undergo several process to be able to be fitted to each
other. This project is done in group. Each group receives two metal pieces and then are given
explaination as to what to do with them.

Objectives
1. To understand what is the fittng process and its’ significance in forming a project.
2. To study the safety requirement during the fitting process.
3. To study the safety precautions in fitting workshop.
4. To study how to use the tools in fitting process.

Safety requirements
Pre-Use Safety
First of all , prior knowledge on what we are going to do would be of great help on sucessing the
project and to prevent many accidents. The knowledge can be gained by reading the user manual,
including all safety procedures before starting on the project. The next step of precaution is to check
every tools that will be used in the project such as saw, drill machine and others.

Safety when Using Drill Floor

Drill floors requires an extreme level of safety. Especially securing friction on the deck is a high
priority as mud, grease, oil, sludge etc. creates a very slippery milieu.Being one of the toughest
places to work at all, the passive safety on a drill floor is even more important. This goes for lighting,
instrumentation, availability and, not least, effective and visible anti-slip solutions. Thus in operating
this machine , we must first examine the parts in the machine for any loose , damaged or missing
parts and be certain that all parts are in place. Do not proceed if you notice any irregularities. Call for
the lecturer instead for further decision. When operating the machine, ensure the person who
operates is at font of the machine.

Protective Gears
Make sure to always wear goggles hen operating the drill and when cutting th metal. Also , ensure
that you wear approriate clothes and closed shoes.

Method and Standard Operation Procedure
1. PRE-Operation:
 Read the drawing and manual carefully and make sure to understand every bits of it
 Listen to the instructions by the lecturer on how to progress with the project and as to
how to use the tools.
 Ensure the drill machine is in good condition
 Ensure the work piece is in ready condition to be worked on(no dust or dirt)
 Gather the tools that will be used e.g. saw, l elbow ruler and various chisels
 Examine the tools
2. Measurement taking
 Measure the metal with vernier calliper
 Then follow the manual as how much exactly the length that is required.
 Mark the line where the metals are to be cut and drilled to make holes.
 For the marking at the point to be drilled, use centre drill for clear marking.
3. Cutting Process
 Use saw to cut the marked line on the metals
 Cut the metal slowly and nicely
 A group may further be divide into two group to fasten the process where one group
operate on one metal piece.
 After the cutting process, use vernier callipers to measure the project
 Ensure that it is the required measurement
 Lastly use chisels to repair the work piece (to make the work piece more beautiful or to
make it to the required measurement)
4. Drilling Process
 Attach the work piece to the clamp of the machine tightly
 Start drilling the piece with a small point drill first and make a hole to the pieces.
 Then proceed by drilling with the correct size of drill
 Beautify the work piece after it is finished drilled by using chisels
