Material 22Cr ferritic/austenitic stainless steel - often referred to as duplex stainless steel. This
Technical Sheet is not applicable to HIP components. For requirements for HIP
components, consult Company.
Manufacturer’s Materials supplied in accordance with this standard shall only be supplied by Company
Approval qualified manufacturers.
Supplementary S2
Requirements
Heat Treatment All materials shall be delivered in the solution annealed (followed by water quenching)
condition.
Chemical Analysis A product chemical analysis shall be carried out for all heats.
and Pitting
Resistance PRE = Cr + 3.3Mo + 16N. The PRE shall be greater than or equal to 34.0.
Equivalent (PRE)
Hardness Per ASTM standard specified in this Technical Sheet. If no hardness is specified by the
ASTM standard, then the maximum hardness shall be HRC 28, HB 271 or HV10 310.
Impact Testing Charpy V-notch testing shall be in accordance with ASTM A 370;
Ferrite Content ASTM E 562 or ASTM E 1245 shall be used for manual point count or AIA respectively
as follows:
Metallographic 1. Samples shall be etched using ASTM E 470 etchant number 98-K3Fe(CN)6 or with
Examination KOH or NaOH.
Test Sampling 1. Test samples shall be taken from an actual (sacrificial) test forging or from a
prolongation of the actual part.
2. Test sample shall be from a location which is representative of the thickest section
of the production forging.
3. The test sample from parent forging shall accompany the actual production forgings
through all heat treat ad quench cycles.
Extend of Testing All testing shall be conducted on each heat for each heat treatment load.
Non Destructive 1. All forgings shall have ferrite content determined in a minimum of two locations,
Ferrite Measurement including both the thickest section and the thinnest section using a Fischer
Feritscope ferrite scope.
2. Ferrite content shall be between 35% and 55%.
Product Form Plate (for pressure-containing components such as vessel shells or for fabricated
components such as plate type heat exchangers and tanks.)

Requirements
Heat Treatment All materials shall be delivered in the solution annealed (followed by water quenching)
condition.
Hot and Cold 1. If material is cold worked at any location in the product into a radius of curvature to
Working thickness ratio of 18:1 or less, or to a plastic strain of 2.5% or more, then material
shall be solution annealed after cold working has been completed.
2. A separate solution annealing and water quenching shall be required for material
that has been hot formed. Testing shall be carried out on material after completion
of all forming and heat treatment activities.
Chemical Analysis A product chemical analysis shall be carried out for all heats.
