METAL LOCKERS
PART 1 - GENERAL

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
(NTS: 1. Locker locations must be indicated on drawings. 2. Locker sizes are indicated
on drawings. 15-in. W by 18-in. D by 72-in. H (single door) is most often used in office
work; 24-in. W by 18-in. D by 72-in. H (double door) in New York. Check specific
requirements for each job.)
2.02 LOCKER DATA:
a. Coat Hooks: One ceiling hook with two prongs; three wall hooks with one
prong each. Locate wall hooks on (back and each side) wall.
A. Materials:
1. Lockers: Mild annealed, cold-rolled sheet steel free from surface imperfections and
suitable for receiving a high grade baked enamel finish.
B. Construction:
1. Body (sides, backs, tops and bottoms): 24 gage steel. Make exposed sides 16
gage. Flange sides to give double thickness of metal at back vertical corners and
with edges suitably formed to provide a rigid assembly when bolted together.
2. Door Frames: 16 gage steel formed to a channel shape, electrically welded. Add
an additional flange to vertical members to form door strike. Reinforce door to
prevent twisting.
3. Doors: 16 gage one piece steel adequately flanged with channel shape formations
or vertical edges and right angle formations at top and bottom.
5. Legs: A continuation of the vertical frame members with rear legs adjustable.
6. Hat Shelf: 24 gage steel, perforated, rolled front and flanged side and back. Locate
approximately 9 in. (229 mm) below top of locker.
(NTS: Use the following subparagraph with flat top recessed lockers.)
7. Recess Trim: 18 gage steel formed 3 in. (75 mm) wide.
8. Other Trim and Closure Pieces: 16 gage sheet steel formed for attachment to
lockers. Include filler pieces, end panels, clips and splice plates as necessary.
Factory finish to match lockers.
(NTS: Use the following subparagraph when flat top lockers are built in with furred
ventilating space above.)
9. Ventilating Plenum on Flat Top Recessed Lockers: Provide locker tops with
openings to allow for forced ventilation through an overhead duct system
(furnished and installed under Section 15806.)
(NTS: Use the following subparagraph when sloping tops are used on exhaust plenum.)
10. Form a continuous plenum in sloping tops for forced ventilation. Provide openings
of required size in sloping tops for ventilating ducts furnished and installed in
Section 15806. Perforate locker tops to ventilate lockers into sloping top plenum.
B. Locking Device: A positive, automatic type whereby locker door may be locked while
open, then closed without unlocking and without damaging locking mechanism. Locking
device shall engage door frame at three points. Provide lock bar of channel formation
and tamperproof, operating within channel formation of door. Provide rubber silencers
on latching hook, top and bottom of lifting trigger, and top and bottom of locking bar.
C. Keying: Provide lockers with built-in masterkeyed flat or grooved key locks. Supply
two keys for each lock and a total of two master keys.
D. Door handles: Die-cast zinc alloy, chrome plated, either lifting or pull-out type of tamper
proof design.
A. Coat Hooks: Cadmium plated steel. Place ball points on each prong. Attach with two
bolts or rivets.
(NTS: Change numbering to suit projects or indicate on Drawings and reference below.)
B. Number Plates: Polished aluminum with black numerals not less than 1/2 in. (13 mm)
high. Number consecutively beginning with "1" in each room. Attach plates with split
rivets.
A. Shop Finish: Heavy coat of baked on enamel applied to bonderized and phosphated steel.
Apply finish to exterior and interior surfaces of fronts, ends, backs, sides and tops of
lockers and exposed to view and panels.
A. Provide clear hardwood seats 9-1/2-in. (242 mm) wide by 1-1/4-in. (32 mm) thick by
lengths as shown on drawings, finished with three coats of plastic sealer.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION:
C. On Metal Legs: Set and align lockers carefully in position and adjust legs as necessary
for level installation. Attach closed base.
A. Lengths indicated.
B. On Pedestals: Space not more than 6 ft. (1829 mm) on center. Attach hardwood seat to
pedestals with screws. Securely anchor pedestals to concrete floor with lag screws or
other suitable anchors.
C. At Walls: Securely attach standards to wall with suitable anchors not more than 6 ft.
(1829 mm) on center. Attach hardwood seat to standards with screws.
3.03 PATCHING:
B. Replace defective materials and finishes having deep gouges and scratches with entire
new locker and at no additional cost to the Owner.
3.04 CLEANING:
