ZN regulation improvement

UNT-SVB08A-E4
ZN regulation improvement

1. Introduction
Control of fan coils equipped with a ZN control and a thermal actuator valve can
be improved through the following modification.

2. Units potentially affected

Fan coils UNITRANE and HFO/R manufactured before september 2003, equipped
with a ZN control and a thermal actuator valve.

3. Discussion
The following abnormal operations may occur:

ƒ wide discharge temperature range,

ƒ low minimum discharge temperature,
ƒ electric heater ON during cooling mode operation.

The first two points only affect comfort while the third one has an impact on energy
consumption. Since none of them concern safety or performance of the unit, the
modification must be done only when required by the customer.

These inconveniences can be solved by replacing the thermal motor by a 3 point

one and modifying ZN parameters.

4. Action
First of all, download from http://stadoc/menupublic/IndexTechnicalService.asp
(Software download/ Fan Coils) the 6 configuration files onto your laptop where
ROVER is installed.

You should only use ROVER versions 4 or 5 with the last Service Pack and
relating Patch (you can download them from the following page:
http://tranenetlax1s/GCC_Downloads/Home/Downloads/Rover.asp).

Second step: configuration file

Connect ROVER to the unit (or network when available) using your ROVER
Service Pack.

a) Save the current parameter file of the unit

In the Active Group tree, click the device. The Active Device View appears in the
workspace.
Click the Configuration Button in the Active Device View. The Configuration dialog
box appears.
From the File menu of the Configuration dialog box, choose Save. The Save As
dialog box appears.
Select the location and type a file name in the Save dialog box.
Click Save. The configuration file (.RCF) is saved in the location you specified.

b) Identify the program you need to download on the unit

From the Configuration dialog box, select the Unit tab. The Unit Configuration view
appears.
Compare this view to the ones of the Annex 1 in order to determine which program
you need to download on the device.

c) Note down all the customized parameters

You may have customized some parameters. Downloading the configuration file
will put all parameters to default value. Thus in order to retrieve the customization,
you shall note down all the parameters different from the configuration file default
value in order to enter them back afterwards.

Please find attached in Annex 2 the form to note down the values.

d) Download the proper program

IT IS MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM BECAUSE IT CONTAINS

SOME PARAMETERS NOT AVAILABLE FROM ROVER WHICH HAVE A
GREAT IMPACT ON CONTROL IMPROVEMENT.

From the File menu of the Configuration dialog box, choose Open. The Open
dialog box appears.
Select the location and file name in the Open dialog box.
Click Open and then Download on the Configuration dialog box. A message box
appears to confirm the download.

e) Modify the customized parameters

From the Configuration dialog box, go through Setpoints, Inputs, Fan and Other
tabs in order to enter the customized parameters previously noted.
Click Download. A message box appears to confirm the download.

f) Save the new parameter file of the unit

From the File menu of the Configuration dialog box, choose Save. The Save As
dialog box appears.
Select the location and type a file name in the Save dialog box.
Click Save. The configuration file (.RCF) is saved in the location you specified.
Click Close.

NB: If some units have the same customized parameters and the same program,
you can follow the here above procedure for the first one and download its file to
the following instead of points d) and e).

5. Part
Order one KIT1095E per unit, it contains:
ƒ 1 three point actuator
ƒ 1 seven wire connector
ƒ 2 lead connections
ƒ revised electrical diagram (sticker to cut and place on the unit diagram)

6. Labor coverage
Motor replacement: 30 minutes per unit

Configuration (test included): 1 hour per unit
