shortlists Olialia to Build, Operate &
Transfer Olialia International Airport
Maldives for 50 years
The Government of the Republic of Maldives, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, Velanage, Male has offered Olialia
India — a global conglomerate to develop, construct and operate international Maldives airport on BOT (Build, Operate,
Transfer) basis for 50 years. The International Airport shall be developed on existing Fushifaru Island land and reclaimed
land from Fushifaru lagoon (Shaviyani Atoll, Upper North Province of Maldives). Government of the Republic of Maldives
has agreed that International Airport built on Fushifaru Lagoon will be named as “Olialia International Airport Maldives”.

The letter, signed by Maldives Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer, inviting Olialia World to develop International Airport
in Maldives has been addressed to Mrs. Anca Verma, Chairperson Olialia World. As per the proposed BOT (Build,
Operate, Transfer) model by the Tourism Ministry of Maldives, Olialia will be constructing, owning and operating
the airport for 50 years, after which it will be handed over to the Government of Maldives.

On November 20 th. Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Olialia country partner Maldives and Mr. Saamee Angeel, Director General
Regional Airports, Government of Maldives signed Olialia International Airport Development contract and gave
the official start for the project.

Olialia World will be responsible for the full funding of International Airport project through its Joint Venture
Partners, nominees or consortium. Projected total estimated cost of construction of the International Airport,
a seven-star resort on “Olialia Island”, super luxury hotel and Duty-Free shopping mall will be in excess
of US$ 500 Million.

The Government of Maldives will not take part in investment or funding of this ambitious project. It is expected
that at the moment of handling airport to Maldives government in 50 years’ time it will be valued at US$ 10 billion.

The project is likely to be completed in 24 months from the date of groundbreaking and will create more than
10 000 employment opportunities for local Maldivians. Olialia’s ambitious plans of foraying into airlines business
and other major plans will be tied up with one of the leading global charter airlines and construction companies
for Olialia International Airport project. Direct, non-stop flights that will be carried by Olialia Airlines from Dubai,
China, USA, Germany, France, and the UK will bring hundreds of thousands of tourists annually to Maldives.

Besides Olialia International Airport in Maldives, the facility would also be developed as a regional HUB
for Maintenance and Repair Organisation (MRO) for passenger jets in the Indian Ocean region catering
to airlines of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh. This will create valuable service for regional airlines
as currently for C-checks aircrafts have to be sent to Hamburg (Boeing) and Toulouse (Airbus) in Europe.

Olialia World was incorporated in 2001 by biggest Lithuanian newspapers group “Respublikos Leidiniai”
Ltd., which is controlled and owned by the Tomkus family. Circulation of newspapers and magazines,
published by “Respublikos Leidiniai” covers 50 % of Lithuania’s population.

Olialia brand awareness reached 99,3 % and became an exceptional


business success story in Lithuania and Baltic states. It is then becoming
clear that Olialia with its know — how was ready to grow into the global

In 2011 two influential families — Verma family and Tomkus family

Mr. Abhishek Verma, the Chief Evangelist of


Olialia World and the captain of a global
conglomerate, diversifying into entertainment,
FMCG, resorts and infrastructural projects
globally.

In November 1997, at the age of 29,


Mr. Abhishek Verma was featured
on the cover of India Today magazine as
the youngest billionaire of India and 20 years
later Mr. Verma is on the list of Forbes of the rich
and the powerful. His foray into many past
successful ventures in the diversified fields
of Defence Equipment Procurement, Telecom,
Aviation and Hospitality Business are some
of the benchmarks in the Indian Industry.
Entrepreneurial success allowed Mr. Verma
to undertake civic initiatives in India.
He installed over 150 electric wells to supply
the underprivileged community with abundant
potable water, established medical clinics,
started mid-day meal schemes for school going
children and, through celebrity charity events,

due to cancer. Late Shrikant Verma’s wife, Mrs. Veena
Verma served multiple terms as Member of Parliament
in Upper House of Indian Parliament from Congress

Mrs. Anca Verma is the Chairperson of Olialia World and lieutenant of global conglomerate where she developed and grew
it together with her husband Mr. Abhishek Verma since 2006. Now Mrs. Verma is constantly developing Olialia brand
in order to create new business opportunities and grow
brand vertically and horizontally. With a help of Olialia's
management team, Mrs. Verma is initiating new product
developments, evaluating market entrance opportunities,
building marketing and sales strategy for all products
with Olialia trademark.

Mrs. Verma graduated from the University of Galați


(Romania) with a Master's Degree in engineering.
During her early days in college, she hosted several talk
shows on national and European TV channels. In the
modeling world, she won the Miss Universe Romania
title and was the most sought-after model in Europe.
After leaving modeling,she joined Atlas Telecom Network
Romania, a mobile service provider, and was appointed
the General Manager of Romania operations. After her
marriage to Mr.Verma, she took over the day to day
management and global operations of Verma Family

Maldives tourism indicators

The year 2015 was an impressive year for the global tourism
industry with a 4.4% growth in international tourist arrivals
recording a total of 1,184 million according to UNWTO
World Tourism Barometer released in January 2016.
The international tourism demand has been booming faster
for the past few years with higher than expected arrival growth
rates despite the various challenges faced.

The inbound international tourist arrival in the Maldives


reached 1,234,248 in 2015 with an arrival growth rate of 2.4%
compared to the year 2014.The sector recorded a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.42% during the last five years,
which is much higher than the global average.

Looking into the regional tourism source markets, Asia and the Pacific maintained its position as the market leader
for the Maldives since the number of inbound international tourists from the region surpassed the arrival numbers
from Europe since the year 2014. Asia and the Pacific region is the fastest growing market with a significant chunk
of the pie.

In terms of individual markets, China continues to be the top tourism source market for Maldives sharing 29.1%
of the market with sustained growth rates. Although, the arrival growth from China for 2015 is 1.1% lesser than
the figure in 2014. Other top markets like Germany, United Kingdom, and Italy showed positive growth rates
in 2015. Maldives also experienced significant growth from Saudi Arabia, the United States and Australia.

Marketing Initiatives

Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together
with industry operators from private sector undertook many initiatives to promote the destinatio in 2015
and 2016. Some of the important exhibitions participated by the Maldives include the Fitur, held in Madrid,
Spain, the FESPO Fair held in Zurich, Switzerland in January, the East Mediterranean International Tourism
and Travel Fair (EMITT) held in Istanbul, the Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT),
the Arabian Travel Market held at Dubai in May, the JATA Tourism EXPO Japan held in September, the TTG
Incontri held in Italy, The Marine Dive Fair held in Tokyo, Japan, the Azerbaijan International Tourism Fair
(AITF), and the World Travel Market (WTM) held at London in November 2015.

Awards

Maldives achieved a big win with a total of 20 awards on various categories in the 22nd
World Travel Awards Grand Final Ceremony held in Morocco on 12th December 2015,
which included the title of the World’s Leading Beach Destination. Other renowned awards
include the winning of 2nd place on the DIVER magazine destination of the year award
and the third best exhibitor award in ITB, 2015. Also, several resorts and hotels
in the Maldives won various distinguished awards in 2015.

Accommodation Facilities

Tourist accommodation facilities in the Maldives comes in four types,


tourist resorts, city hotels, guest houses and safari vessels. At the end
of 2015, a total of 302 properties were operational with 28,276 beds,
and almost 85% of the capacity came from tourist resorts. And, though
with a lower percentage of bed capacity currently, safari vessels seem
to be a growing type of tourist accommodation with an increment
of 43.4% of beds from the number in 2014 for this type
of accommodation.

Connectivity

Air connectivity is one of the key factors in enhancing the international tourism performance in the Maldives.

Many new airlines started its operations in the Maldives during 2015 providing more connectivity and flexibility
for international tourists visiting the Maldives. Silk Air- the regional wing of Singapore Airlines started four weekly
scheduled flights to Maldives from 25th October on Singapore-Male’ route. The Beijing Capital Airlines —
a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines started three weekly scheduled flights from Beijing to Male on 27th October.
Turkish Airlines — the national flag carrier of Turkey started 5 days per week scheduled flights from Istanbul
Atatürk International Airport to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport from 24th November 2015. Also,
Air Asia — the low-cost carrier from Malaysia resumed its flights to Maldives during 2015 after stopping
the service for about a year.

Moreover, in February Maldivian added new routes with flights from Xian to Nanjing to Maldives focusing
on the increased influx of Chinese tourists and started new direct flights from Bangkok to Malé.

passengers daily with fast excess to additional services such as cafes, restaurants, prayer rooms

passengers- connection to a mini port close to the airport where tourists will be redirected to all
