Reflections of an Economic Strategist & China Advisor

I was born and bred in Chinese classics and several dialects but otherwise within very limited
means, of Shanghainese and Indonesian-Singaporean parents in a small Chinese village. I at-
tended college in North America and Europe, began my career as an intern on Wall Street, NY,
and moved on to Southeast Asia, Beijing, Shanghai, London, and Utah over the next three
decades. Since the time when I was a small child and through the years, I have had the privi-
lege of receiving first-class training on joyfully turning resource scarcity and crisis situations
into opportunities for innovation, relationship building, and accelerated growth personally
and for the organizations I served. I owe my entrepreneurial spirit and accomplishments to
my Creator. He gave me the experience of a well-travelled executive at the world’s leading
financial institutions and strategy consulting firm and the enormous satisfaction of being able
to utilize all of my previous training and background in my current role as a community
builder and catalyst of positive change in economic living.

As a global executive-turned economic advisor, I welcome opportunities of creating high-

impact innovations and engaging widespread support in promoting resource-based views of
diversity and economic self-reliance as a renewed competitive edge in all sectors of economy
and at all levels of society. My passions and expertise include: (1) Global Business and Profit
Optimization Strategy; (2) China Immersion in Education and Business; (3) Leadership Train-
ing and Development; (4) National and Statewide Economic Behavior Reform Strategy; and
(5) Best Practices in Character Education through the Arts and Humanities.

Western management theory and teaching maintain that strategy is a firm-specific concept.
But I gathered from my Chinese philosophical upbringing and nearly 30 years’ of full-time
work experience that personal preparedness and adaptability are preconditions of leadership
on a broader scale. My goal as an international citizen and “society scholar”is to connect and
respond to the needs and challenges of society. I am an advocate of "Positive Psychology of
Threat", an economic motivation theory I developed and tested in my international award-
winning PhD thesis on Motivation under Uncertainty and Risks. I believe individuals, families,
organizations, and societies all have the choice of making a difference especially in the face of
uncertainty, when we are reminded that we need one another to become stronger and better.
