Reflections of an Economic Strategist & China Advisor

I was born and bred of Shanghainese and Indonesian-Singaporean parents in Chinese classics
and several dialects but otherwise within very limited means in a Chinese village. I attended
college in America and Europe, began my career as an intern on Wall Street, NY, and moved
on to live and work in Southeast Asia, Beijing, London, and Logan in the next three decades.
Since the time when I was a child and through the years, I have had the privilege of receiving
first-class training on joyfully turning resource scarcity and crisis situations into opportunities
for innovation, relationship building, and accelerated growth personally and for the organiza-
tions I served. I owe my entrepreneurial spirit and accomplishments to the Creator. He gave
me the experience of a well-travelled executive at the world’s leading financial institutions
and strategy consulting firm and the enormous satisfaction of being able to utilize all of my
previous background and training in my current role as a community builder and catalyst of
positive change in economic living.

As an international executive-turned economic advisor, I welcome opportunities of creating

high-impact innovations and engaging widespread support in promoting resource-based
views of diversity and economic self-reliance as a competitive edge in all sectors of economy
and at all levels of society. My passions and expertise include: (1) Global Business and Profit
Optimization Strategy; (2) Leadership Training and Development; (3) China Immersion in
Education and Business; (4) National and Statewide Economic Behavior Reform Strategy; and
(5) Best Practices in Character Education through the Arts and Humanities.

Western management theory and teaching maintain that strategy is a firm-specific concept.
However, I gathered from my Chinese philosophical upbringing and 30 years of work experi-
ence that personal preparedness and adaptability are preconditions of leadership on a broader
scale. It is my desire as an international citizen and a “society scholar” to effectively anticipate
and respond to the needs of society. I do so by being an advocate of "Positive Psychology of
Threat", an economic motivation theory I developed and tested in my international award-
winning PhD thesis on Motivation under Uncertainty and Risks. I believe individuals, families,
organizations, and societies all have the choice of making a difference especially in times of
uncertainty, when we are reminded that we need one another to become stronger and better.
