Classroom Management Plan

The first week of classes should include:

Specific expectations of behaviour

- Students must come to class with all the materials required for class.
- If a student doesn’t have the required materials, they will first ask a neighbor before
disrupting the class.
- If the neighbor doesn’t have extra materials the student may raise their hand and ask the
instructor.
- Cell phones are prohibited during the lesson unless otherwise stated by the instructor
- After the lesson is complete students may use their cell phones but will be encouraged to
use it for academic purposes.
- Students will be expected to respect each other and provide a safe learning environment
- Disrespectful behaviour will be dealt with based on the discretion of the instructor.
- Students will primarily ask questions by raising their hands
- Positive behaviour will be reinforced with positive feedback
- Negative behaviour will be dealt with quickly to set expectations for the semester

Cognitive practices
- Most classes begin with a hook that attempts to grab student’s attention and get them
thinking about a particular scientific concept.
- Inquiry based learning will be a large part of my science curriculum.
- Self directed learning will be a large part of my science curriculum.
- Student directed activities will be used heavily to keep students engaged and interested in
the material
- Incorporate real life examples and videos to keep students engaged during more teacher-
directed lessons

Routine
- Students will be placed at horizontal tables with another student on either side of them.
- Students will play kahoot quizzes every Friday based on that week’s materials.
- Each class begins with a hook to grab student’s attention and get them thinking
- Each class ends with a restatement of that classes’ learning goals and a quick debrief of
that lessons material
- Students hand in their work at the end of class in a drop box at the front of class

Activities
- I like the idea of having an activity based on the material that will be covered in that
semester and have students test their current knowledge such as a unit test at the start of
the unit.
- I also believe exit/entrance cards are a useful assessment tool to establish early on in the
year to gauge student learning.
