In 15-11-1989 it was given the status of District headquarter. Before this it was a sun-
district of Naushahro. Which was setup during the British Raj in 1912. When the British
Government established District Nawabshah, it was based on the areas of Naushahro
Feroze, Kandiaro, Moro, and Sakrand.
Naushahro Feroze District is present in the center of Sindh province. In its east there is
Khairpur District, in west is Dadu District, in its north-west is Larkana District, in its north
is again Khairpur District and in its south-east is Nawabshah District.

People belonging to different language groups like: Sindhi, Urdu, Panjabi, Seraiki,
Pushto, and Balochies are living here in a very peaceful and friendly atmosphere.
Beside this, majority of the population in District Naushahro Feroze is Muslim but

Agriculture:
Rivers Indus flows in the west of this district. It is mostly based on the agricultural lands.
All type of cash and food crops are sown here which include, wheat, maize, barely,
cereals, cotton, rice etc. As far as the main fruits of this area are concerned these can
include bananas, mangoes, guava, oranges, berries, lemons, etc. The agriculture lands
of Naushahro Feroze are giving many cash and food crops. Now- a – days, these lands
are more planned, leveled and green. Wheat, cotton, and sugarcane here grown here in
abundance, beside this, a very good quality of Bananas and mangoes are also major
products of this district, Irrigation waters of this district are more planned now-a-days as
compared to few decades ago. Water Management Department is working day and
night for this purpose. But due to the porous mud banks of canals, water table under the
ground has risen to the dangerous level and thus salts and minerals under the ground
has come over the earth thus giving a way to the eruption of salinity problem. This
problem is destroying the fertility of our agricultural lands and as a result our agricultural
yield is decreasing. Salinity Control and Rehabilitation Project (SCARP) is working since
many years to have a control over this problem with fleet of many tube wells no
promising results have been achieved. Sukkur Barrage’s largest Rohri Canal (Which is
Sehra Canal.etc.also the largest in Asia) run through this district and its other main

Pakistan railway feeder line was also running between Padidan and Naushahro Feroze.
It was further going to Tharushah, Kandiaro and Mehrabpur on the one side and to
Moro, Qazi Ahmed, Sakrand. Halla and Tandoadam on the other side.

Historical Background:
Many centuries ago Sindh was divided in four regions given below:
Multan Uch Brahmanabad Siwistan Lohano is historical region of Central Sindh, which
is considered as a very important and fertile for language, literature, culture, and
civilization. Lohano’s area was later on sub-divided in three regions namely. lohano
Area – Based on the area in between Sabu Raho and Qazi Amed. Lakhat Area-Based
on the area in between Qazi Ahmed and Shahpur Jahania.
Sahati Area- Based on the area in between Shahpur Jahanian and Rasoolabad.
Today’s Naushahro Feroze District is based on the area. Which was called “Sahati” in
old days. Word “Sahati has been created from the Sindhi word “Sahati” which means “ a
developed area” it is also said the word “ Sahati is actually originated from Sahta tribe.
The tribe still exists in this area.
Naushahro Feroze has remained the central town of Sahati region, which was also
present in B.C. Period with the name of “Nagra Maan”. In those days Buddhists were
living here.
HOW THE NAME NAUSHAHRO FEROZE GIVEN TO THIS CITY:
The name “Naushahro Feroze” was given to this city. There are many references for
this. According to Mir Ali Sher Qaniu who is the author of an old history book “Tuhfat-tul-
Kiram” Fakir Feroze laid the foundation of a new city “Naushahro Feroze” by uniting the
nine villages of locality. Thus it was “a city of nine cities”.
Mian Naseer Muhammad Kalhoro is first ruler of Kalhora dynasty.During his rule Feroze
Faqir occupied Sahati area and built a town most probably in 1681.This town was then
called as Naushahro Feroze. The last Kalhora ruler was Mian Abdul Nabi Khan Kalhora,
who fought a battle with the Talpurs of Baluchi tribe at Halani in 1783.Mian Abdul Nabi
Khan Kalhora was defeated in this battle, thus Sindh went into the hands of Talpurs.
The Talpurs divided the country of Sindh among three branches of their family – Upper
Sindh (Khairpur), lower Sindh (Hyderabad) and Mirpurkhas, whose rulers formed a
confederacy. Each of these bore the title of Amir (also called Mir).Mirs ruled over Sindh
till 1843 when Sindh went into the hands of British invaders.
Naushahro Feroze has a very rich historical background for the reason also because
Ahmed Shah Abadi and Nadir Shah of Iran also had a brief stopover here. Not only this,
but Emperor Hamayun of
Mughal Dynasty also took a rest for three days at Darbello town of district Naushahro
Feroze. Darbello is famous because in old days it remained the headquarter of Sahati
region for some time. There is also an old fort to memorize the reign of Jam sahito.
Besides this, there are some other ancient forts also in District Naushahro Feroze like
“Murad Kot” and “Surni Kot”.

The Kandiaro city is also very historic one. Many important personalities of “Khilaft
Movement” in Sub-continent came here. Before the creation of Pakistan Sardar Abdul
Rub Nishtar, Mohammad Yousf Haroon and Jawaharalal Nehru (ex-Prime Minister of
India) came here. After the creation of Pakistan Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehaman of East
Pakistan also came here. During the Khilafat Movement of 1919, which was to show
unity with the Turk Caliph (Ottoman Empire), people of Naushahro Feroze region
actively took part in this movement .They showed to the British rulers that although they
are far away from Turkey but their hearts beat with the Muslim Caliph. We can name
here a few locals like Anwar Ali Shah of Bhiria Road, sheikh Abdul Aziz of Tharushah,
Haji Gul Mohammad Keerio of Moro, Ali Sher of Bhorti, Pir Turab Ali shah of Mithiani
and Qazi Khuda Bux of Naushahro Feroze, who were very active in this movement.

This area also produced well known politicians during the British Raj. When election
were held for the Bombay Council in 1920, then Haji Imam Bux Khan Jatoi of Moro area
won this seat from Nawabshah District. When Muslim league in 1935 started its
membership in Sindh and its units were also opened in different cities. Then Haji Imam
Bux Khan Jatoi and Qazi Faiz Mohammad Morai were appointed as members of Sindh
Muslim League Working committee for Nawabshah District. Again in 1938, Haji Imam
Bux khan Jatoi was appointed as the President of Sindh Muslim league for Nawabshah
District. Besides this, unit of Sindh Muslim League were also opened in different towns
and villages of this area like Naushahro Feroze, Moro,Kandiaro, Darbello, Bhorti, Phull,
Padidan, Dalipota, Mehrabpur, and Bhiria Road. When Sindh Provincial Election of
1946 were held in the month of January, then Ghulam Rasool Jatoi of Muslim League
won the Moro-Sakrand seat , Sayed Noor Muhammad Shah of Muslim League won
Naushahro Feroze seat , and Sayed Muhammad Ali Shah of Sayed League won

the Moro-Sakrand seat. Sayed Noor Muhammad Shah of Muslim league won
Naushahro Feroze seat and Ghulam Nabi Dehraj of Muslim League won Kandiaro seat.
After the creation of Pakistan and separate Muslim states on 14th August 1947

League won the North-East Naushahro Feroze seat, Pir Qurban Ali of Muslim League
won the Naushahro Feroze seat, Haji Ghulam Nabi Dehraj of Muslim League won
Kandiaro seat. Kararo Shah of Muslim League won Kandiaro south, and lastly Haji
Ghulam Rasool Jatoi of Muslim League won Nawabshah seat.
Under Basic Democracy System (B.D system) of Field Marshal Ayub Khan, National

Nawabshah at NW-66 seat. During the 1977 National Assembly Elections, Ghulam
Mujtaba Jatoi of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won N.A-158 seat of Nawabshah and at
the same time Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi of PPP also won Sindh Assembly seat of P.S-19.
In 1983, during the Martial law regime of Gen.Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Ghulam Mujtaba
Jatoi played a leading role in Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in Pakistan
(MRD) from Naushahro Feroze and created a lot of political pressure for the
government. In 1986, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi quit PPP for ever and established its own
political party with the name of National Peoples Party (NPP).
