EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As an MBA Marketing candidate doing Project in a software company is one of the grand and
glorious opportunities in this wosrld of information technology where information technology is
spreading its wings by the nooks and corner not only in our country but also in the whole world
which makes the daily life of man and machine more efficient, accurate, easy and highly
productive.

Stepping in an IT Industry with a software company Microlucid Technology Pvt Ltd. Pune, and
dealing software and website and web application directly to the corporate world was a great
opportunity for me, where I learned the actual working of a software company. Which provided
me a beautiful biennial experience which ultimately going to help me in my future professional
career
I was located for the Pune region with the entire business responsibility as a Marketing
Relationship Officer dealing with the product from Two Thousand to Five Lakes Products range
after the training and under the guidance of company Manager. I was responsible from initiating
any business call and making follow up till the end to closing the deal and till the product and
services are to be delivered to the customer.

This project was totally based on customer oriented job which enabled me to make a direct call
and generate leads, some time to do telecalling for taking appointment and to meet with customer
and pitching them the product as per their requirement and persuade them at the level to buy the
same.
In this summer project I had to study customers decisions for the particular deal and their
response for the product. How to convince the customer, how they react when they come to
know about how they can increase their business by using MEGAKHOJ WEBSITE and
SOFTWARE. What they feel when they heard price and how they negotiate for that particular
deal.
REASON FOR SELECTING THE TOPIC

"Selling of Web Site server space and customized software to customers”. Understanding the

sales system of an organization helps in taking further steps in terms of market orientation and

objection handling. These issues help us adapt our strategies by taking the consumer into

consideration. For example, by understanding that a number of different messages compete for

our potential customers’ attention, we learn that to be effective, advertisements must usually be

repeated extensively. We also learn that consumers will sometimes be persuaded more by logical

arguments, but at other times will be persuaded more by emotional or symbolic appeals. By

understanding the consumer, we will be able to make a more informed decision as to which

strategy to employ.

While doing my training in MICROLUCID TEC. PVT. LTD. I found that it’s not only the

Quality and Price but there are various other aspects also which affect customer purchasing

decision. Such as marketing segmentation, targeted customers, provision for services etc.
OBJECTIVE

To increase customer awareness and promote Microlucid Tech. Pvt. Ltd. software and website to

prospect customers in Pune. Also to take orders of software and website designing from these

customers.

SUB- OBJECTIVES

 To find out the factors that affect the buyers decision for adopting software

 To increase the customers awareness about software and website.

 To understand customer’s level of satisfaction with software and website.

 To promote the software and website of Microlucid Tech. Pvt. Ltd.

DEFINING THE PROBLEM

the scope of Microlucid Technology Pvt.Ltd. and also creating a need of website and software

solution among the people as a medium of service in office as well as business sector.

2. As DST of the company we had to sell the website on megakhoj and customzies software

solution for different businesss unit. Microlucid Technology Pvt. Ltd. and also to make

the survey in Business area to find out the prospect customer though there is cutthroats

competition in the Information Technology sector however direct Marketing which is an

important strategy that company has actively adopted. Therefore, we had to visit office to

office and approach the prospect customers who needs solution and want to come on

internet.

3. We had to understand the prospect’s need and persuade him to buy internet service from

different plans of service that suits according to his interest and requirement.
4. Keep in touch to ensure that changing plans are reflected in the city relating to tariff and

connection rents.

BEST PRACTICE

9) Choose Appropriate Development Process

It is important to choose the appropriate development lifecycle process to the project at

hand because all other activities are derived from the process. Each of the available

methodologies is best suited to specific kinds of projects, based on various technical,

organizational, project and team considerations. Microlucid always consider each of the

major prescribed methodologies in context with business, applications, organization, and

technical environments.

10) Requirement Gathering

Requirement gathering is an essential part of any project and project management.

Understanding fully what a project will deliver is critical to its success. This may sound

like common sense but surprisingly it's an area that is often given far too little attention.

Gathering and agreeing on requirements is fundamental to a successful project. Quality

requirements are broken up into two kinds: functional and non-functional. A good way to

document functional requirements is using Use Cases. Note that Use Cases are used for

non-OO projects. Non-functional requirements describe the performance and system

characteristics of the application. It is important to gather them because they have a major

impact on the application architecture, design, and performance.

11) Change Management

Change happens. The problem is managing that change successfully in an ever-

increasingly complex environment, especially when there’s a geographically distributed

team handling high volumes of digital assets and activity requests coming from multiple

stakeholders.

Software Change Management solution allows development organizations to control,

communicate and respond more effectively to rapidly changing business demands.

Furthermore, these integrated configuration and change management capabilities can be

easily expanded across all phases of the application development lifecycle, including IT

project and portfolio management, requirements definition & management (RDM),

analysis and design, and testing and ASQ. The result is better visibility, increased

responsiveness, greater predictability and improved software applications and systems.

12) System Architecture Design

Choosing the appropriate architecture for your application is key. Mostly all the troubled

projects have incorporated bad designs and the development team did not apply well-known

industry architecture best practices. A good way to avoid this type of problem is to use

patterns and they range from the classic Gang of Four patterns, Java patterns, to EJB design

patterns. Sun's equivalent is the Core J2EE Patterns catalog. Many projects fail as discussed

in the introduction. The study of these failures has given rise to the concept of ant patterns.

They are valuable because they provide useful knowledge of what does not work, and why.

13) Application Design

Even with a good architecture it is still possible to have a bad design. Many applications

are either over-designed or under-designed. The two basic principles here are "Keep it

Simple" and information hiding. For many projects, it is important to perform Object-

Oriented Analysis and Design using UML. There are many books on UML, but we

recommend UML User Guide and Applying UML and Patterns. Reuse is one of the great

promises of OO, but it is often unrealized because of the additional effort required to

create reusable assets. Code reuse is but one form of reuse and there are other kinds of

reuse that can provide better productivity gains.

14) Data Architecture Design

Data Architecture Design includes storage, accumulation, retention, archival,

maintenance, and transfer of data within the system and between various systems within

or outside the organization.

This requires ensuring that data elements, reflecting the enterprises' functional and

technical vocabulary, are organized into a standardized data dictionary that

accommodates the breadth of business activities performed. The team evaluates the type

of data stored to determine commonality, uniqueness, redundancy and efficiency and

provides an assessment that lays the foundation for an enterprise data architecture, which

supports the application development efforts and streamlines the design process.

15) Writing Quality code

Ensure quality from the start. Quality is not something that can be easily added later.

Problems that are too complex, too obscure, or are discovered too late in the product

cycle are usually not fixed. The following topics describe principles and procedures for

improving code quality.

16) Peer reviews

It is important to review other people's work. Code review is systematic examination

(often as peer review) of computer source code intended to find and fix mistakes

overlooked in the initial development phase, improving both the overall quality of

software and the developers' skills. Experience has shown that problems are eliminated

earlier this way and reviews are even more effective than testing. Any artifact from the
development process is reviewed, including plans, requirements, architecture, design,

code, and test cases. Peer reviews are helpful in trying to produce software quality at top

speed.

17) Data migration

Most applications are enhancements of existing applications and migration of data has

lots of complexity involved. Data migration is necessary when a company upgrades its

database or system software, either from one version to another or from one program to

an entirely different program. Data migration from the existing data sources is usually a

major project by itself. Data migration has lots complexity and it always require a set of

in-depth experience to perform migration. The migration becomes complex as the new

application has better business rules and expects higher quality data. Improving of data

quality becomes challenging without compromising the actual contents. Data migration

typically has four phases: analysis of source data, extraction and transformation of data,

validation and repair of data, and use of data in the new program.

18) Quality & Testing

Testing is not an afterthought or cutback when the schedule gets tight. It is an integral

part of software development that needs to be planned. It is also important that testing is

done proactively; meaning that test cases are planned before coding starts, and test cases
are developed while the application is being designed and coded. There are also a number

of testing patterns that have been developed.

19) Defects management

Software defects are expensive. Moreover, the cost of finding and correcting defects

represents one of the most expensive software development activities. For the foreseeable

future, it will not be possible to eliminate defects. While defects may be inevitable, we

can minimize their number and impact on our projects. To do this development teams

need to implement a defect management process that focuses on preventing defects,

catching defects as early in the process as possible, and minimizing the impact of defects.

A little investment in this process can yield significant returns.

20) Configuration management

Configuration management (CM) is the detailed recording and updating of information

that describes an enterprise's computer systems and networks, including all hardware and

software components. Such information typically includes the versions and updates that

have been applied to installed software packages and the locations and network addresses

of hardware devices. Special configuration management software is available. When a

system needs hardware or software upgrade, a computer technician can accesses the
configuration management program and database to see what is currently installed. The

technician can then make a more informed decision about the upgrade needed.

An advantage of a configuration management application is that the entire collection of

systems can be reviewed to make sure any changes made to one system do not adversely

affect any of the other systems.

21) Deployment

Deployment process consists of several interrelated activities with possible transitions

between them. Installing, setting up, testing and running are the steps of deployment.

22) Maintenance and Support

Application Maintenance and Support has become the backbone of the business as any

problem into running application directly affect the revenue and divert the business to the

competitor. For a successful business, you must give importance to proper maintenance

and support to the application.

23) Project management

An effective project management is very important for a successful project. Project

management is the discipline of planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring

about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. Project
management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a specific set of

tasks. Project management includes developing a project plan, which includes defining

and confirming the project goals and objectives, identifying tasks and how goals will be

achieved, quantifying the resources needed, and determining budgets and timelines for

completion.

24) Project Evaluation

Project Evaluation is a step-by-step process for objectively assessing the success of the

project by collecting, recording and organizing information about project results,

including short-term outputs (immediate results of activities, or project deliverables), and

immediate and longer-term project outcomes (changes in behavior, practice or policy

resulting from the project).

A project evaluation checklist helps you evaluate your planned IT project objectively and

realistically against known project management concepts and standards. Particular

emphasis is put upon the project's alignment to business direction and priorities,

accountability, joint work with other departments, sharing resources, working according

to project management and corporate disciplines and risk management.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (OJT)

In my OJT I had to improve myself by doing the responsible job in the well reputed company i.e.

Microlucid Technology Pvt. Ltd. as DST for the specified area viz Pune, under the valuable guidance

of company guide and faculty guide. I also went through a special training program in the company

about the product, industrial profile, company profile, present market Scenario and competitors market.

Therefore, as a salesperson I had to act for the company by performing one or more of the following

activities: prospecting, communicating, database gathering etc.

Objectives: The main aim of the on the job training is to accomplish the following objectives

 To do market survey in residential area allotted by the company for creating awareness.

 To collect reliable database through market survey.

 To Sell website on megakhoj and customize software of (Microlucid Technology) in given

area.

 To use proper channel of communication (Direct marketing, tele-calling, personal selling, e-

mail) to sale megakhoj and customize software.

 To Generate prospect lead

 To convert the prospect leads into business.

Target and Tasks:

1. To Sell website on megakhoj and customize software (Microlucid Technology) .

2. Market Met 5 people daily in specified area allotted by the company.

3. To generate 2 prospects leads daily by doing Cold Call and telecalling.

4. Telecalling of 20 people every week for the selling of the megakhoj and customize software.

METHODOLOGY
To perform the above tasks I had to adopt and implement various marketing strategies. The objective of

the present job has been accomplished by conducting a systematic market survey. Market Survey is

based on the systematic design, collection, analysis, reporting of data and findings that are revolving to

different marketing situation facing the company.

I used the following strategy to complete my market survey successfully.

Developing the survey plan: The present project is based on pure database information which can help

to adopt an effective sales force strategy for Microlucid Technology.

Collection and sources of data: Data gathering involves usage of both primary data and secondary data.

So far as our OJT is concerned it based on primary data.

Analyze the collected information: This involves converting raw data into useful information. It

involves tabulation of data, using statistical measures on them for developing frequency distribution

and calculation the averages etc.

Report research findings: This phase will mark the culmination of the marketing research effort

findings and experience will be used to propose recommendations to develop the sales plan for

Tataindicom Broadband.

Following methods were applied by me to achieve the targets and to complete my OJT:

Direct marketing has acquired an immense importance for today’s organizations. The project which I

have done, ‘Direct Marketing Programs at Microlucid Technology Pvt. Ltd. is a project, which explores

some of the Direct Marketing methods. As a management trainee worked in the company as DSTs, we

have to look for the prospective customer through programs such as:

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths
Since the company is based in India & US its competitive advantage is enhanced. The Indian economy,

despite weak economic indicators such as relatively high rates of inflation, has low labor costs. The

workforce has relatively high skills levels in Information Technology. Couple these two elements

together and you have an operational basis that offers low-cost based highly skilled competitive

advantage.

Weaknesses

Despite being a huge IT company in relation to its Indian competitors, MICROLUCID is much smaller

than its global competitors.

Opportunities

There is a new emerging market for the customers of bottom of Pyramid in India.

Threats

India is not the only country that is undergoing rapid industrial expansion. Competitors may come from

countries such as China or Korea where there are large pools of low-cost labor, and developing

educational infrastructures such as universities and technology colleges.

Customers may switch to other offshore service companies in other countries such as China or

Korea.Other global and big local players have realized that India has the benefit of low-cost, highly-

skilled labor that often speaks English and is culturally sensitive to Western practices.

RESEARCH DESIGN/ METHODOLOGY

METHODOLOGY USED
This research involved a study, which was descriptive as well as explorative in nature it basically aims

at gathering data about how the software company sale there product.

SOURCES OF DATA

Data Sources:

In my project, both primary and secondary data were equally important. Primary data are the data

freshly gathered for a specific purpose or for a specific research project. Secondary data are the data,

which already exist, and available from secondary sources, indirect sources. Collecting secondary data

is not a difficult affair where as collecting primary data is difficult, everything needs to be taken out

from source by applying different ways and means… While collecting data, I was very careful to be

precise and specific to my project

There are few ways to collect primary data i.e. through observations, focusing on the group, through

surveys, behavioral data and questionnaires. I had mainly collected primary data through

questionnaires, observations, & one on one interviews.

SECONDARY DATA:

The sources of secondary data were:

 H.R Representatives.

 Other employees with whom I interacted during two months.

 Other project trainees.

But here, only field research method of data collection is preferred which is very suitable to

reach the research motto.

A. Personal interview:

Questionnaire was used as the research instrument to collect the

required information.

B. Telephone surveys: The

survey was conducted in different location of Pune by telephone

SAMPLING METHOD\SIZE

Sampling plan: sampling plan consists of

I. Sampling unit: Director, Owner, Manager of school, college, coaching

institute and company was selected from different places of Pune.

II. Sampling product: Megakhoj (integrated web site) & customize software.

III. Sampling procedure: Simple random sampling procedure was followed

IV. Sampling method: Data were collected by Director, Owner, Manager of

school, college, coaching institute and company by directly contacted

and telephonic interviewed.

DATA ANALYSIS

About Questionnaire and interviews.

The questionnaire is prepared keeping in mind all the areas of group dynamics, interpersonal relations

and communication building among managers/ technical and functional heads.

All interviews conducted are one on one with proper request of timing schedule online, through

telephone or personally and relates to above said contents.

 Company should increase number of employee.

 Company should increase training period from 2 days to 5 to 7 days.

 Company should increase the number of branches.

.
CONCLUSION

After completing this research we come to know that marketing of software products are quite same as

marketing of other products. Marketing involves two dimensional picture, where marketing personnel

needs to relate with the customers and their needs. It also helped me to understand how to do marketing

of computer software and also the required needs of customers in the current software market. I also got

understanding of customer relationship management.

LEARNING

During my summer internship in Microlucid Technology Pvt Ltd. I learnt a lot from this project. This

project helped me to know how IT Company functions in the corporate world. I gained practical

knowledge like how to arrange customer data for making calls, how to segregate the data and also how

to make cold calls and how to speak and what to speak, I also learned how to close a deal.
