16. (a) (i) List and describe the functions of hardware components in PLC system. [8]

(b) (i) Explain the basic operation of manually operated switch [8]
(ii) Write the ladder logic program needed to implement each of the following. [8]
1. When input A is closed, turned ON and hold ON output X and Y until A opens.
2. When input A is closed and either input B and C is open, turn ON output Y,
otherwise it should be OFF.

17. (a) (i) Explain the basic operation of Retentive timer with neat diagram. [8]
(ii) Design a ladder diagram to wash the car automatically. Explain with necessary [8]
assumptions.
(or)
(b) (i) When the lights are turned OFF in a building, an exit door light is to remain on [8]
for an additional 2 min. and the parking lot lights are top remain on for additional
3 min after the door light goes out. Write a program to implement this process.
(ii) Explain the function of the major components of process control system. [8]
