1. General
This work shall consist of excavation for all channels, drains, leadaways, ditches and the
like both inside and outside the right of way according to dimensions, grades, levels,
alignment etc. and positions shown in the construction drawings or as directed by the
Engineer.

5.0 Sequence of work.

Step 1 Setting out


The lines & levels of excavation shall be set out with reference to the center
line of the road and marked by pegs.

Step 2 Check Lines and Levels.


All dimensions, alignment and levels required on the drawings / Engineer’s
instructions are checked just before the excavation is commenced.

Step 3 Excavation
The channels, drains, ditches and the like shall be excavated to the cross
sectional dimensions, alignments and levels/grades as given in drawings or as
instructed by the Engineer.
Necessary excavation shall be carried out by using a backhoe loader or by
manually. The depth of excavation shall be decided according to the
construction drawings. The required longitudinal slope shall also be achieved
by the excavation.
Where rock out-crop or rock boulders encountered during excavation for the
drain shall be removed by sledging or blasting or by other approved means.

However, such operations are not advisable to be carried out due to site
condition, the drains may be suitably deviated with prior approval of the
Engineer.

All unsuitable materials shall be disposed to a suitable dumping location.

Step 4 Check grades, dimensions & Cross section

Grades, alignments and cross sectional dimensions of channel shall be checked


according to the Drawings/ Engineer’s instruction just before final shaping and
finishing.

Step 5 Final shaping and Finishing.

Final shaping and finishing shall include proper disposal of all excavated
materials, backfilling and compacting where required, shaping and finishing all
earthwork involved in conformity with the required alignments, grades and
cross sectional dimensions required on the drawings or as instructed by the
Engineer.

6.0 Supervision

Position Responsibilities
Site Engineer Perform the work on the basis of method statement,
specification and drawings.
Technical Officer All setting out works in accordance with Method Statement
and drawings / Engineer’s instructions.
Foreman / Supervisor Assist to Site Engineer/ Technical officer

7.0 Inspection

Site Engineer shall implement the Request for Inspection (RFI) and shall be kept
at site for the Engineer’s consent. When any of the Non-Confirmation identified
by QAM or by the Engineer for the particular construction event Site Engineer
shall perform to issue NCR through the QAM and he shall prepare for the
CAR/PAR

8.0 Traffic Control

All the traffic control arrangement at site will be in accordance with the site safety
manual.

9.0 Safety Provision

Safety of workers will be ensured by providing safety equipments, such as hard


hats, safety jackets, boots, gloves etc.
