APPLICATION FORM

Please use this page (only) to list your theatre work, providing a brief line of
context for each show if necessary.

As a director:
1. Women and Wallace by Jonathan Marc Sherman – Part of the One Act Play festival
in my home country of Malta. Directed and put up a one-act piece with brand new
actors (anyone can give it a go). Ended up winning Best Production for that year
(2014).

2. Romeo + Juliet (Shakespeare) – As a direct result of winning Best Production in

the prior year’s MADC One Act Play Festival, I requested to direct the national
Shakespeare production the following year – choosing to do Romeo and Juliet
outdoors at the Presidential Palace in Malta. Reviews/Pictures can be found here:

in-the-garden-of-despair.578741

As an actor:
1. Trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama – on the BA Acting MT
Course 2015
2. Boys at the LOST Theatre (Now Stockwell Playhouse) Nov 2016
3. Pinot – The Musical at the New Wimbledon Studio Feb – June 2017

Please answer each of the questions below, within the specified word count.
1. What should the Royal Court be doing that it isn’t currently? (max 100 words)

The Royal Court currently stages great work generally coming from within the British
society’s perspective. I think it could do a better job of representing those who are
outside it – particularly in terms of postcolonial perspective. The British Empire owned
Malta (my home country) for around 200 years – and till now the influence there is
tangible – and vice versa, the Maltese people who integrated into the UK society also
affect it. I think there are stories there that would be very interesting to stage here in
the UK, and would still be very pertinent.

2. When does experimental theatre become a waste of public money? (max 100
words)

1. When no one comes to see it.

2. When it serves the creatives not the craft.
3. When it’s more about ticking boxes than serving as a true representation (no
matter how ugly) of what’s going on.

3. What would the mission statement be for your ideal theatre company? Imagine
there are no budgetary or other restrictions. (max 200 words)

A company that is both gender AND colour blind devoted to creating theatre
that moves people in new and unexpected ways – plays with form and
delivery as much as content and above all raises a mirror to society

4. Why do you want to work with writers? (max 100 words)

They cut to the heart of things without much faffing about.
