PLC Notes

2-12-18

 Review of ISAT
o Blue = All students can use it.
o Navy = Designated Supports to a group of adults that may need the supports.
o Green = IEP (these supports must be written into the IEP to be used on the ISAT.)
 Embedded and non-embedded
o Tests taken with general education teachers unless otherwise noted.
 Just because a teacher doesn’t want a SPED kid in their room for testing, doesn’t
mean the student can leave.
 Small Group Testing
o Gen ed teachers haven’t been letting SPED kids into SPED room for testing.
 Suggested: Put testing location on IEP for this testing.
 Small group can be up to 15 people
 Let students practice taking tests in their general education classroom
 This will help them transition in higher grades and schools.
 Make an effort to prepare them to do this by telling them it will happen
and what it will be like for them.
 Work with general education teachers to know how to keep an eye on
SPED students during test taking.
 SPED teachers cant help in testing anyways.
 If you have a student that clicks through tests because they don’t want to take
them, the setting will not change how the student is going to take the test.

*There was a lot of conversation between general education teachers and special education teachers
concerning test taking. There is no one way to do this. It was a great thing that PLC was held on this
topic so both the gen ed and spec ed teachers could council on what will work best in their situations for
the upcoming testing days. This meeting was used as preparation for testing.

 Teachers Pair up and talk about progress monitoring – PLC theme for the year.
o Teacher has student with very low memory skills
 Counting is a strength
 Cant recognize numbers
 3rd grader on 1st grade level but not making progress.
 Mostly due to memory problems.
 We looked at charts of data from progress monitoring for this student.
o 2 other teachers gave suggestions on how to help this student progress
 Use a more direct and scripted curriculum.
 Redo lessons day after day instead of one lesson a day.
 Teach very simply.
