Section A [10 marks]

Carefully read the text below, consisting of 12 lines, about mosquitoes. The first and last
lines are correct. For eight of the lines, there is one grammatical error in each line. There
are two more lines with no errors.

If there is NO error in a line, put a tick () in the space provided.

If the line is incorrect, CIRCLE the incorrect word and write the correct word in the space
provided.
The correct word you provide must not change the original meaning of the sentence.

Examples:
I arrived to my destination at 2p.m. at
My mother always wears sensible clothes. 

Mosquitoes are insects that have been around for more than 30 million

years. And it seems that, during those millions in years, mosquitoes have 1

been honing their skills so that they are now experts at finding people to bite. 2

Mosquitoes have a battery of sensor designed to track their prey. 3

Mosquitoes can sensed carbon dioxide and lactic acid up to 36 metres away. 4

Mammals and birds gives off these gases as part of their normal breathing. 5

Certain chemicals in sweat also seem to attract mosquitoes. People that do 6

not sweat much do not get bite as much. If you are wearing clothing that 7

contrasts with the background, and especially if you move while wearing that 8

clothing, mosquitoes can see you and zero in at you. It is a good bet that 9

anything moving is “alive” and thus full of blood. Mosquitoes can detect heats 10

and they can find warm-blooded mammals and birds easily.
