Ribbed Sweater Vest By Sarah Gattis of Mia & Maddie Designs

Nothing is cuter than a dog in a


sweater vest! This vest is knit
in a super chunky yarn in a
ribbing that gives a thick but
snug fit. It also closes with
large buttons and is finished
with a wide collar making for
one hip dog.
With only 33 rows it can be
Size: 14” chest – 20” chest (ribbing stretches for perfect fit). Length is 5.5 inches behind legs. knitted in a jiffy. So what are
you waiting for?
Yarn: 
1 skein of Sensation’s Sumptuous (or any super bulky yarn)
Needles:
16” circular U.S. 15 needle
Notions:
Darning needle, stitch marker, 3 large coordinating buttons
Gauge: 7 sts & 9 rows = 4” square in K1, P1 rib on U.S. 15 needles

Directions:
Back of Sweater: (Can be knit longer if need be)
Cast on 28 sts on U.S. 15 circular needles. Working back and forth on circular needles (not in the round) knit 3
rounds of P1, K1 ribbing.
Row 1(WS): P1, yo, p2tog, continue in ribbing as established until end of row.
Rows 2-8: Work across row in ribbing.
Row 9: Repeat Row 1
Making Leg Holes:
Row 10(RS): p1, k1, p1, cast off 3 sts, cont ribbing to last 6 sts, cast off 3 sts, rib last 3 sts.
Rows 11-12: Work across in ribbing working each section with a separate ball of yarn.
Closing Leg Holes:
Row 13 (WS): Rib 3 sts, cast on 3 sts, rib to remaining leg hole, cast on 3 sts, rib remaining 3 sts.
Row 14(RS): Rib across all sts.
Working Chest Area
Row 15 (WS): k2tog, Rib across to last 2 sts, p2 tog.
Row 16 (RS): p2tog, rib across to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Row 17 (WS): Repeat row 1
Row 18(RS): p2tog, rib across remaining sts.
Row 19 (WS): k2tog, rib across remaining sts.
Row 20 (RS): k2 tog, rib across to last 2 sts, k2tog. (18 sts remain)
Making Collar
Rows 21-30: Knit across
Cast off sts. Weave in ends. Attach buttons to corresponding button holes. Optional: if you don’t need the buttons to
function and you want added stability you can stitch the sweater closed from the back edge to the button at the neck.
