Though everyone knows that Portuguese is a Latin language, people in general rarely think of how it
has become spoken by more than 200 million people all over the world. What about English? Have
you ever thought of the origins of the one you have been studying as a second language? Before
you watch The Adventure of English 500 AD to 2000 – a History Channel documentary on the history
of English – answer Part 1 questions and check how much you know about the region where this
language was originated and some of its influences.
