Career Action Plan

By: Ryan Feczko

Freshman Year:

I am interested in a career in law. I think it would be very fulfilling to help people on a

daily basis while using the law. I would like to see how the law is used, and follow after both of

my parents as a lawyer. I like to speak, especially argue a point in an argument.

There are many types of lawyers, all of which I think would be interesting in their own

way. You can be a lawyer for a very specific thing, or a broad number of topics. Lawyers’

salaries can range from $50,000 to $150,000 at the entry level.

To do this, I plan on taking four years of social studies as well as electives such as

government and law.

I did not attend any field trips this year, but I would like to attend some next year for the

careers that I am most interested in.

Sophomore Year:

My career interests have changed slightly since last year. I am still moderately interested

in law, but engineering has emerged as something that I am very interested in. Solving problems

has always been something that I have done since I was very young, and the thought of being

able to do that to help and assist people seems like a great career path. Taking the Intro to

Engineering Elective has also increased my interest in Engineering.

One major that I could choose in the field of Engineering would be Civil Engineering.

Civil Engineering involves the design and building of infrastructure like roads, bridges, and

buildings.

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is necessary to receive in order to become a

licensed Civil Engineer. It would be ideal if I found a good engineering school with this

bachelor’s degree to complete when I get to college. Civil Engineers must also complete PE

(Professional Engineer) certification for whatever state you plan to do work in. Other classes

like CAD (Computer Animated Design) are necessary for these certifications.

I would be interested to job shadow at Galleta Engineering, Bohler Engineering, and at

CMU’s Engineering Department.

The interview I conducted was with Stuart McClure. He is the CEO/ President Founder

of Cylance, Inc. I learned about how important it is to be resilient and some basic information

about the cyber protection part of Engineering. After hearing this interview, I am even more

fascinated with engineering and still believe it is a very possible career option for me.
