Dear Parents,
This week in Reader’s Workshop, we will
read “Oak Tree” .To increase reading comprehension
we will look at these TEKS: Recognize Text Structure
(Point out that the words in many stories follow a
certain pattern. Paying attention to how a book is
organized can help them to understand it.) Literary
Element: Rhyme (words that sounds the same at the
end) and Rhythm (many poems have a rhythm or a
beat like music) Identify Sequence of Events (Identify
and remember in what order events happen in the
story.)
This week in Writer’s Workshop, we are writing
Poetry. In Math, we will begin our study of
measurement. In Social Studies, we will begin our
study of maps and globes. In Science, we will begin
our study of plants.
Kindergarten Round Up
Tuesday, April 3th will be the district kinder round up for new
Kindergarteners. I need one parent volunteer from 8:30-
10:00 to help in our classroom with new visiting students
while their parents are completing registration forms in the
cafeteria.

March 30th- No School (Typo last week said the
29th)
April 11th-Zilker Botanical Garden- 9:00-1:00ish
(A parent volunteer or two is needed)
April 13th-Our class performs at morning
assembly with Mrs. Ulrich’s class
April 18th-Kinder Music Program 6:00
May 11th- Mother’s Day Picnic 10:30-11:30
All Mothers are invited for songs and lunch
May15th- Northwest Park Field Trip- We will walk
to the park around 8:00 and return around 12:00.
Check with room parents to volunteer! (We need
four parents to run some stations)

 Compare/contrast using math vocabulary

Ways you can support your child’s learning at home:
 Have your child read to someone each night for 10-15 min.
 Have your child practice writing simple sentences paying
attention to using spacing between words, capitalization and
punctuation
 Play a word wall word game (ideas on the back of the list sent at
BTS night)
 Help your child sound out words and write about a topic of
interest using details in a story and drawing pictures to go with
the words.
To pass the word wall assessment this nine weeks your child
must read 40 words and this would earn a grade of “2” on the
report card

Fluency develops as a result of many opportunities to practice reading with a
high degree of success. Therefore, your child should practice rereading
aloud texts that are reasonably easy for them – that is, texts containing
mostly words that they know or can decode easily. In other words, the texts
should be at the child’s independent reading level.
