3. REFLECTION NOTES

3.1. Reflection

In this chapter, I shall attempt to convey my learning by reflecting on my experiences of

situations, tasks, actions encountered during my internship. Also try to briefly difficulties
experienced and realizations for potential self improvement.

3.2. Technical & Non Technical Outcomes

3.2.1. REFLECTING THE SITE EXPERIENCE

Working at a bridge construction site which an area predominant with aspects

relating to structural engineering, it was a challenge to observe accurately and confidently
comprehend the condition at site, with a highway masters perspective, but with a light
recollection of the fundamentals learnt during my under-graduation, we were able to close
the gap considerably, additionally with the high spirited guidance and clarification of
queries by the engineers & team members we quickly grasped the situation and were able
to think and work alongside the engineers in charge.

3.2.2. REFLECTING SITE OFFICE EXPERIENCE

The Steel Temporary chambers in the camp site was a cool (literally) experience,
where we would shuffle through all the design drawings of the SUB STRUCTURE, SUPER
STRUCTURE, GAD & RE WALLS , critically discussing the various pieces trying to make
sense initially of the document at hand.

The long discussions in the office with the engineer in charge Er.Yogesh Sir over various
technical aspects and he also shared his insightful over the years experiences at various
other site works he was associated with such a kanteerava studio grade separator which
was also a project concluded by his team in association with the same firm.

The Labour friends constantly working with rebars also had a lot of knowledge to offer
just by observing their work on site.

3.2.3. The Functioning and Working Conditions of a Private Company

Although I had the experience of working with in a private organization. I understand

better the functioning, organization structure and execution of projects in the public
domain. During my stay I also experienced the teamwork & dependence on seniors to
achieve the task at hand .

3.2.4. Enhancing Communication Skills

I was accustomed to working with labours of the southern region in the construction area,
but in the company majority of the labour were from Northern India , I was moderately
successful in connecting and communicating with them , which was a new experience for
me.

3.2.5. The Influence of Future Career Plans

Before my internship with PJB , I had only experience with private building construction.
I wanted to transition in to the public domain projects with road infrastructure
development, now that I feel like I have found my direction and confidence as I am
familiar with the procedures, processes and functioning of a successful firm.

3.3. Learning's

1. The Project Management Structure and Procedures for Bridge Construction.

2. Use of MS Projects for Scheduling.

3. Proof Checking of execution of works according to drawings provided

4. Field methods of translating drawing data such as levels on the site using auto
level.

5. Importance of Time Management.

6. Functioning and Working in the private organization.

7. Utilizing the knowledge gained in the college on site.

8. Development of organizing and initiating skills.

9. Many Critical aspects which we fail to encounter in the class room environment
