A very inspiring talk was delivered by the first speaker, Engineer Anthony Paul Pasia on
the first day of the Industrial Engineering Assembly. The entire time was great. I enjoyed
listening to him from the beginning until the end of his session. He is well prepared for the day.
The slides were divided into "episodes", which made his presentation more relevant the theme
"Warriors of Change: The force within". Each episode didn’t end without leaving any mark in
my heart.
"Make your own path if there's none"-- this is just one of the best line that he said. We
should make ourselves fit for the situation that we have. We should make our own way of
All of us were inspired after his presentation. He told us to never forget the ones that
made us what we are right now. He told us to believe even if the situation is risky. He told us to
make ourselves better everyday. He encouraged us to be brave of doing new things. He told us to
be competent. He is really an inspiring person, and I'm truly happy that I lend my ears for him.
PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL
The last speaker on the first day of the 2-day seminar was Engineer Henry O. Palaca, a
lecturer from the University of the Philippines. He discussed some useful principles of
Production Planning and Control. He was a great speaker. He caught all the eyes and ears of the
participants using his unique personality. He maintained his style until the end of his talk. We are
very thankful for the healthy discussion between us. He taught us that products must be made in
the right quality. Products should reach the standard quality because whether it good or bad, it
will always leave an impression on the customers. Products must be made at right quantity. Very
small number of products produced may lead into shortage of supply in the market while very
large number of products produce may lead into high number of overstocks. Last but definitely
not the least; products should be made at the right time. We all know that bad timing may affect
the quantity of the products. After the discussion, we learned that production planning and
control is not as easy as what we think. It will need time and large amount of knowledge to apply
its principles.
SIX SIGMA, BUSINESS PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING
We are considering this one as the best out of the six talks that I have heard from the two-
day seminar. The discussion was made possible with the wonderful explanation of Certified
Industrial Engineer Rex Jayson "the Six Sigma Guy" M. Tuozo. We acknowledge his excellence
in delivering the thoughts of his talk during the seminar. We appreciate his efforts in making
practical activities for the participants. He taught us useful ways of solving problems using the
Six Sigma. We are also expressing our deepest gratitude to Engineer Rex for teaching us the
SIPOC diagram. It is one of the Six Sigma Tools that can be used to analyze a problem by
following certain methods and make a better solution afterwards. As Industrial Engineering
students, we all know that Six Sigma is one of the most powerful tools that can be used in the
corporate world. By reducing the defects in a production, it may increase the profits of the
manufacturers gradually. It may lessen the cost of manufacturing a certain product. It can change
the flow of a competition between many different companies. And most of all, it can make all of
"Why the World needs Operations Research"-- this is the topic of our discussion with one
of the best speakers in the Industrial Engineering Assembly 2018. She was Mrs. Marlene O.
Gutierrez, a manager, a former lecturer in the University of the Philippines and currently an
Operations Research in a certain company. We are very grateful to know that she was the former
Instructor of a professor in our very own department. She taught us the values of an Operations
Research expert in the corporate world. She taught us the different jobs that we can get if we
have enough knowledge about it. She also said that companies will always have a room for
Operations Research practitioners because learning it will open many windows in the Industry.
The talk was short because the thoughts were directly told. We were amazed by her because of
his efficiency in delivering her lecture. The entire time listening to her was great. We are also
astounded by the answers that she gave during the last part of the said discussion. Her lecture
was very important to us. And once again, we were inspired by the things that are waiting for us
The final talk on the last day of the seminar was delivered by Mr. Warren M. Enteria, the
Vice-President and Head of Business Quality Management Division in the PJ Lhuillier Group of
Companies. The topic was "Quality in the Digital World". He was a great lecturer. We have
only discussed for more than an hour but the left a huge and significant impact on us. He
prepared a logo-guessing activity that we enjoyed. He also showed us different tools that involve
digital technology. One of the most powerful tools that are now used in the in the industry is
known as the Artificial Intelligence. It is a very high digital technology that is programmed to do
different things that humans can do. There is a lot of advantage if we have enough knowledge
about AI. We already knew things about this technology, what we don't know is the possible
effects that can affect the daily routine of the employees and the manufacturers. He told us the
truth that Artificial Intelligence can sometimes be scary. It is true that it can't surpass human
intelligence, but the bad thing there is the possibility of making many employees replaced by the
digital technology.
