Activities for new semsester (Draft)

Dear all,
This write-up is an attempt to list out some of the main activities that we
would intent to focus in the new semester, beginning from January. I am sure, all
of you are aware that, our new semester is supposed to be short with regard to
duration. As semester classes are also scheduled on Saturdays, it would be a
challenging task for us to manage the timings. But, we can try addressing this
through a meticulous and a well phased out plan, which we hope would benefit
the children primarily and their families at large.
The classes would most probably go on for three/ four months, depending on the
duration of the semester. As discussed in many of our meetings, we would try to
join the children in Govt Residential schools where they can avail free food, study
utensils, and a better hospitality till secondary education. It would benefit the
children to pursue what they aspire for. We spoke the matter with parents on
several occasions and eagerly awaiting for their confirmation.
As children are major source for family income, we are yet to obtain full consent
from the parents. We will do our level best to join the children through regular
persuasion. We have support from the elder members from the community,
which we hope would help a great deal for achieving the same.
The Plan!
There is no such thing called a ‘plan’ for our pgm. We intend to adapt ourselves
after studying the existing situation and act accordingly. We’ll try doing
everything that fulfills our motto.
As we attempted mainly on writing and thinking skills last sem (Magazine work,
class sessions that focused on letters, numbers etc), it’d be better if we can
supplement it with some Presentation type activities like Debates, Quiz, Book
reading, Seminars, Question – answer sessions,Poetry-recital, Group plays,
Arts&crafts and much more. Then, the focus would be more on life-skills such as
efficient capacity to communicate, activities that are essential pre-requisites for
nurturing self-confident, self-independent youngsters for future. This would help
the children stand in their own feet, and hopefully will help them pursue their
dreams.
Approach
We would try to ensure more participation from student community.
It would also be better if one teacher can take care of 2/3 children for the overall
semester, so that we can monitor their progress more scientifically. The teacher
can seek help from other group members. An evaluation paper would be
prepared to mark the improvement of our children and to show as a document
when we meet the parents.
We intend to conduct a joint meeting at least once in the span of five-six classes
with Parents and Children, considering their free availability. Date for the meeting
would be announced, after communicating this with parents.
We would also intervene in matters like child health, sanitation etc for which
teachers are expected to play a large part. (All these matters would be added in
the evaluation paper to make the process simple)
Right now, the idea is to wind up the pgm by hosting a ceremony which would
vaguely come under the convocation category, performed in colleges. We’d be
giving the Children some beautiful looking certificates with their individual
pictures attached to it and some other gifts.

Funding
A rough draft for funding proposal is already prepared, which would be discussed
in group meeting and will start doing once the proposal is being approved.
Syllabus

As the attempt is to focus on activity orientation, we must prepare ourselves to

add different syllabus parts from different subjects for each teaching session. We
can start the topics from general, (Like nurturing reading habbits, importance of
family) and move on to some specific subject related topics after 3-4 classes. This
would be conducted in a standard presentation format, with a set of small rules
and so forth.
We are also aiming for a syllabus balance, which means that every informal
presentation activity would be balanced with some fun activities, considering the
time availability.

Points to ponder
It would be great, if we can prepare ourselves early and try our hands at some of
the activities we’d intend doing.
 Some topics that’d fit perfectly for Presentation type activities.
 Informal teaching session techniques you are familiar during school days,
social work, internships etc.
 Some helping hands, (If you feel confident) for asking funds/study materials
and also to join the teaching session.

Hope all of you are doing fine. Let us join hands together and prepare well for
doing some fantastic work.
