Casing 9 5/8", 47#, N-80 set at 9000'; 8 1/2" hole drilled to 10000'.

DC's 6 3/4" x 2 13/16" x 600'

DP 5", 19.5#, new E
mud wt 0.65 ppf

At bottom a sand layer, pressure mid layer 5780 psi.

The DC's become stuck, stuck area 1 1/4" x 200'. Friction factor 0.25.

It is decided due to the long length of cased hole to lower the differential pressure by
pumping a certain amount of oil 0.38 ppf down the annulus. The amount should be such
that when the differential pressure is bled-off through the choke, the top of the column is
almost at surface.

Establish :

1) If it was possible to pull the sting free in the first place

2) How much oil is required
3) How much mud is required to replace the oil
4) Where is the bottom of the oil column in the annulus
5) How far does the mud level drop in the DP when the pressure is bled-off
6) Can we pull free
7) What is the pull

1) Stuck area = 1 1/4 * 200 * 12 = 3000"

Differential pressure = BHP9900' - P0 9900'

Assume sand layer is gas bearing with gradient 0.1 ppf

P0 = 5780 + (9900 - 9800) * 0.1 = 5790 psi | differential = 6435 - 5790

BHP9900 = 9900 * 0.65 = 6435 psi | 645 psi

Max pull on DP = 336256 lbs

Vertical pull required at stuck point = 3000 * 645 * 0.25 = 483750 lbs
Dry weight string to 9900' = 9400 * 20.9 + 500 * 101.3 = 247110 lbs

Total pull at surface = 483750 + 247110 = 730860 lbs => not free

2) Reduce HH to minimum possible i.e. just balance gas in top of sand layer

P0 9600' = 5780 - 200 * 0.1 = 5760 psi |

BHP9600' = 9600 * 0.65 = 6240 psi | Hoil = 480 / (0.65 - 0.38) = 1778'
Reduce HH with 6240 - 5760 = 480 psi | Voil = 1778 * 0.0489 = 86.9 bbl

3) Pressure reduction 480 psi on DP side = 480 / 0.65 = 739' is 739 * 0.0178 = 13.1 bl

Thus, we need to chase the oil with 13.1 bbl mud down the annulus

4) Bottom oil depth = (86.9 + 13.1) / 0.0489 = 2045'

5) DP level drops 739'

6) Differential pressure at 9900' = 645 - 480 = 165 psi

Vertical pull at surface = 3000 * 165 * 0.25 + 247110 = 371706 lbs

So, the pi[e cannot be pulled free as the max allowable pull = 336256 lbs; however, we
can pull free if we allow the SF to increase to :

SF = 0.85 * 371706 / 336256 = 0.94

It is decided to reverse circulate diesel oil (0.36 ppf) into the annulus

Establish :

1) If we could pull the string free in the first place

2) How many feet of diesel do you need to get the max allowable pressure reduction
3) Can you pull the string under those conditions
4) How many feet of diesel oil do you need to pump and what is the pressure before
bleeding off

1) Max pull DP = 0.85 * 553833 = 470758 lbs

Stuck area = 1.25 * 90 * 12 = 1350"

Differential press = (10000 - 45) * 0.65 - 0.060 * 9600 - (400 - 45) * 0.1 = 675 psi

Page 3 of 7
Stuck Pipe 382333111.doc
Pull at top stuck pipe = 675 * 1350 * 0.25 = 227897 lbs
String wt to stuck point = (500 - 90) * 97.5 + 9500 * 21.9 = 248025 lbs

Total pull at surface = 248025 + 227897 = 475922 lbs => cannot pull free

2) BHP can be reduced by 9600 * (0.65 - 0.6) = 480 psi

This equates to 480 / (0.65 - 0.36) = 1655' of diesel oil in the annulus

3) BHP9600' = 1655 * 0.36 + (10000 - 1655 - 45) * 0.65 = 5991 psi

P0 9955' = 9600 * 0.6 + 355 * 0.1 = 5796 psi

Diff press = 5991 - 5796 = 195 psi

Surface pull = 195 * 1350 * 0.25 + 248025 = 313838 lbs => can pull free

4) Required pressure reduction = 475922 - 470758 = 15.3 psi

1350 * 0.25

Require 15.3 / (0.65 - 0.36) = 53' of diesel oil

Since no reservoir thickness is given, let's assume that the rform remains constant over
the reservoir, which has a thickness equal to the stuck length of DC's.

Max pull G = 0.85 * 553833 = 470758 lbs |

Diff press = (10000 - 0.5 * 270) * (0.65 - 0.6) = 493 psi | Cannot pull free
Pull at stuck point = 493 * 0.3 * 3 * 135 * 12 = 718794 lbs|
Pull string to stuck point = 20.9 * 9730 + 135 * 83.9 = 214684 lbs |

It is decided to pump oil down the annulus

The required pressure reduction = (718784 + 214684) - 470758 = 317 psi

Page 5 of 7
Stuck Pipe 382333111.doc
0.3 * 3 * 135 * 12

Required is 317 / (0.65 - 0.38) = 1174' oil is 1174 * 0.0485 = 56.9 bbl

Check overbalance = 1174 * 0.38 + (9875 - 1174) * 0.65 - 9875 * 0.6 = 177 psi OK

Answer stuck Pipe 4

BHP = 10000 * 0.66 = 6600 psi

P0 10000' = 10000 * 0.6 = 6000 psi
P0 9500' = 6000 - 500 * 0.1 = 5950 psi

Min HH9500' = 5950 / 9500 = 0.626 ppf

Min HH10000' = 6000 / 10000 = 0.6 ppf

Present BHP9500' = 9500 * 0.66 = 6270 psi

Reduce BHP by 6270 - 5950 = 320 psi max
